An RX For Waiting

On my way home yesterday - early because the federal government decided to close its doors early due to the winter weather and I didn't want to get caught in the inevitable traffic - I had to stop and pick up a prescription. Unfortunately, about six or seven other people had the same idea. They were in front of me. I was not pleased. Now, there were six - yes, six - people behind the counter and yet it took me 30 minutes to make it to the front of the line where I was promptly told that my perscriptions had not been filled because I'd been given a new insurance card.

The Problem: Couldn't they have called to tell me this? "Mr. Cactus, we're unable to fill your prescriptions because we need a copy of your new insurance card. Please drop it by at your convenience." Something like that? Now, I'm not the president of a country, I'm not running some multi-national corporation but I kinda do value my time.

Anyway, I killed some time in a bookstore not far away and picked up my prescriptions a half an hour later.

That has happened to me before. I guess they just don't know how to pick up the phone and call.

Hey now! i work in a pharmacy and sometimes it's not as easy as that. although, what we usually do is fill the prescriptions w/o the insurance, and then rebill once the cutomer gets there, taking all of but 2-5 minutes if things go well.

i swear, working in a pharmacy is one of the most difficult things. you deal with grouchy, sick people all day who just grumble at you at the counter and say things like, "you're the stupidest person i've ever seen!" or "i hope they fire you" or whatever else spills out of their mouths.

don't get me wrong, not ALL customers are like that, hehe. but seriously, sometimes it's the customers that make me dislike my job.

also, if we spent all day calling customers back every time there was a problem with their insurance or their rx was refill too soon or whatever the case may be, we'd have no time to get anything else done. it's a tough job sometimes!

but yes, chris...i'm sorry it took you so long and sorry about the situation. just thought i'd try to give you thier POV. :D no hard feelings? hehe

Bah, I had a stupid perscription mess up a few days ago too. I was not impressed. My doctor was supposed to call in a refill for me. It was for one weeks worth, and I was told it would be at my drug store, and it would be for no charge still. WELL, it was at the wrong drug store, it was a months worth, and they tell me that my insurance paperwork has lapsed so it was $50. grrrr
