Obligatory Weekend Recap

Okay,, maybe I haven't exactly been the cheerful Rude Cactus you've come to know and love. There have been ups and downs recently but I'm trying...trying not to let this turn into some shallow pit of self-pity in which you may discover me wallowing from time to time. To that end, aside from the thoughts about better and my ode to regret, I did have some fun this weekend. Let me tell you about it...

On Friday night after work, Beth and I headed out for a nice dinner then pretty much crashed at home with the Olympics. Diving was on, if I recall correctly, and she likes the guys in Speedos...and just for the record, she's not going to get me into one of those things so she better take full advantage of the whole Olympic experience. Then? There was excessive sleeping as well and we woke up pretty late on Saturday.

Not wanting to just hang around all sloth-like, we decided to head out and see a movie. Note: Garden State is excellent. Quirky, odd in parts, and excellent. After the movie, we headed home, changed quickly and headed out yet again to try a new Asian place that recently opened up by us. Now, we usually make pretty good restaurant calls but sadly this wasn't one of them. It looked chic, hip and uber-cool but that was about the depth of its uber-coolness. The food was uber-bad. So uber-bad that I didn't even think to take pictures of its uber-cool look. And I take pictures of anything! Note, the second part: To all DC-area diners, please to be skiping dining at Penang.

Sunday was devoted to three things - errands, relaxation and bowling. Yes, I said bowling. We bowled under our aliases so as to remain a mystery and avoid being attacked by our legions of fans and stalkers. Also, as it turns out, bowling alleys make for some interesting pictures. I bowled badly but at least I was consistent. Oh, then? Nachos!

Sunday evening we filled the house with the smells of our homemade wild mushroom and rosemary risotto which takes about half an hour of solid stirring. Which is problematic only if you've been bowling. My arm hurts. And its Monday. Boo.

BOWLING! What fun! In my former life, I lived in Old Town Alexandria. You might have seen me riding the ball return somewhere down off Duke Street. Good times.

Sounds like a pretty good weekend! :)

Sounds like a nice relaxing weekend with Beth. Oh yeah, boo on Mondays *feh*

Sounds great! Totally relaxing and laid back sounding.

You might want to follow my rule of thumb for Asian restaurants (doesn't apply to chains like PF Changs). The fancier or more ornate the building and/or decor, the worse the food. This seems to hold true fairly regularly.

I also USED to bowl but enough about me. I NEED (not to be confused with want) the risotto recipe. We make a chicken mushroom risotto which takes forever too but is awesome!

Excuse me? Bloggers are defined by just how shallow their pit of self-pity can be! If I had a designer perfume named just for me it would be "Shallow" its fragrance would have hints of crab grass, inertia, and self-delusion. Maybe they would bring a musk for men?

Glad you had fun this weekend! Excessive sleeping, devoted relaxation -- what could be better?

what awesome pictures... teach me how you do that!
and the last time i went bowling it involved many straws. there is a baja fresh opening near us soon... is it worthy?

you know we'd read you whether you were "johnny smiley" or "jimmy boo hoo." i, for one, love to hear about other people's pain. =)

Damn. Movies, dinner, sleeping late, cooking something other than fishsticks -- you all are obviously child-free. Right now, color me jealous.

Love the bowling alley photo! Great stuff... funny story -- and I'll be sure to stay away from Penang whilst in D.C. - :-)

BAJA!! I perked up like it was Friday when I hit that link. It sounded like a good weekend until that point-- Garden State is an excellent film and sorry about the bad Asian food-- but BAJA! That makes the weekend even better.

Hey, have you checked out Zach Graff's blog? It is somewhat interesting and the amount of comments that he gets are overwhelming...if indeed it is him writing at all, which I think it could be...anywho...Happy Monday! Your flowers were gorgeous.

yes, I think we are all impressed by the flowers - gorgeous! Glad that you guys had a fun weekend with lots of sleep, yummy food, and BOWLING!

I really loved Garden State, too. I think it had flaws, like any first film. But overall, it was excellent! I laughed. I cried.

I'm glad you saw it.

And your weekend sounds awesome. And relaxing.

i totally want to see Garden State, too. hopefully i'll get a chance to check that out.

Lubbed Garden State too!!!

Hey, do you listen to the Hives at all? My BIL hooked me up with the CD this weekend, and I thought you'd like it.

Bowling??? How totally fun! :) And those bowling alley shots are wonderul. I caught the diving competition as well. And I think it's the only time that guys should be allowed to wear Speedos...well that and during the swimming competitions. Any other time is just wrong, wrong, wrong! LOL.

I'm jealous that you can go to the movies whenever you want! I can't even remember the last time I went to the movies with my husband... oh wait, yes, it was to see mystic river. Sigh...

Yep, I've had that happen like 1000 times now.
