De-lurking Day

stranger.jpg
What's today? Well, okay, yes, its Wednesday. And Hump Day - you're right about that. Its also a rainy day...and I'm stuck in meetings all day so its a sucky day. But really, the answer I'm going for is De-lurking Day!

Today is the day bloggers would like everyone to come out of hiding for a couple minutes to comment and say hello. And for all of you who quite regularly comment here? I want to hear from you today too.

So come on! What are you waiting for? Comment already. Need something to comment on? Okay...here are some topics for you:

1. The decline of the Hollywood studio system and its impact on the modern box office.
2. Lost is back tonight. What's gonna happen?
3. Mao Tse-Tung's rule and its lasting impact on Chinese communism.
4. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Round to the nearest cubic foot.
5. What would you like to see more of here on Rude Cactus?
6. Explain the appeal of Ron Jeremy in 500 words or less.

P.S. - like I said, I'm in meetings all damn day so if I'm quiet, that's why...

There is NO appreal of Ron Jeremy. NOTHING! Ewww *all over body shudder* YUCK! Hrm maybe that is the appeal. To be able to look at him and just ...ewww...*bleh*

Posted by: Lauren at January 5, 2005 7:25 AM

You write very well, are amusing, and your hair looks fine!

Sorry for the lurking, Ill try to say hi once in a while.

Posted by: ThatGirl at January 5, 2005 8:03 AM

I'm a delurker ;) And a linker. I'm adding all of us DeLurk meme people to my post.

Posted by: HG at January 5, 2005 8:20 AM

#4 - A woodchuck would chuck as much woood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

#5 - your butt *grin*

Posted by: Amber at January 5, 2005 8:31 AM

Hmm, an interesting coincidence, since just yesterday I was feeling guilty about being a lurker on so many sites, yours included. I can't help you with any Lost predictions since I am eagerly anticipating the return of my beloved O.C. [ok, perhaps revealing this obsession to the whole Internets is why I should remain a lurker...] Anyway, love your site.

Posted by: mc at January 5, 2005 8:33 AM

oh my god. i can't believe you're making me think about ron jeremy at 8:30 in the morning. his appeal? who the fuck knows?? that question has been bugging me ever since i first saw him about a decade ago. can you believe his was one of the first porn movies i ever saw? i mean, holy hell, if that's not enough to turn you off porn forever i don't know what is.

i guess, if forced to really answer the question, the fact that he's not good looking at all appeals to the average guy. makes 'em think that they have a fighting chance of getting laid by the pizza delivery girl. as if.

Posted by: Patricia at January 5, 2005 8:39 AM

No mention of Ron Jeremy before 9 AM, actually no mention of him after 9 either, mm'kay?

I'm not a lurker at this blog, but I'm going to make an effort to to de-lurk other places too.

Posted by: Oliquig at January 5, 2005 8:44 AM

Who is Ron Jeremy?? And, I don't think I ever qualified as a lurker. (But I am stealing this for Therapy Failed.)

Posted by: Krush at January 5, 2005 8:47 AM

Of course, since you won that BoB award you know you're fabulous, but I am stopping by, as a semi-lurker to tell you in person.

Posted by: Sheryl at January 5, 2005 8:55 AM

Wow... it's not even 9AM and you already have 10 comments. Seems to be working! ;) It's snowing here. Ick... I wanna go hoooome.

Posted by: SG at January 5, 2005 8:56 AM

Uh, I meant diarist award. I'm brain dead. Children cause you to lose most of your brain cells, so you and Beth have been forewarned.

Posted by: Sheryl at January 5, 2005 8:59 AM

Yes, I must quit lurkin' around here so much. It is rather rude I suppose.
~Ron Jeremy *score 1 for mr. cactus as coffee has again sprayed the keyboard*.... has appeal? Was that truly necessary this early in the morning?
~Skin. I wanna see more skin. *cough* YOURS! No Ron Jeremy guest stars or anything, puhleeeze!

Posted by: Jade at January 5, 2005 9:13 AM

I came here via 'Therapy Failed' and I'm delurking! Happy De-Lurking day!

Posted by: Annie at January 5, 2005 9:21 AM

I'll take a stab at answering #6. I can sum Ron Jeremy's appeal up in less than 10 words-

There ISN'T any appeal unless you're insane.

That is all.

Posted by: Kristi at January 5, 2005 9:34 AM

Daily lurker here. The only comment I've made in the last year is about wanting a Rude Cactus tshirt so, even through I'm crushed by the tragedy that inspired your CafePress venture, am thrilled I'll be able to sport the Cactus.

Also as a fellow vegetarian I want to mention that Humane Society of the United States is taking donations for tsunami disaster relief on their site. Funds go to Humane Society International Asia division.

Thanks for a kickass blog.
"Lost" rocks...

Posted by: Honor at January 5, 2005 10:01 AM

Do I have to comment on any of that? Because that would require thinking and I don't want to today.

I will say, I am so excited about Lost and Alias in the same night, I just might pee my pants.

Posted by: Jazzy at January 5, 2005 10:01 AM

I think I dont comment much because I'm never as funny as your readers. But Dude, I lurk here more than it is at ALL healthy, considering we're friends!! Happy De-Lurking Day, Chris!

A woodchuck WOULD chuck as much wood as a woodchuck COULD chuck IF a woodchuck could even chuck wood!

Posted by: Zoot at January 5, 2005 10:02 AM

Just finished my first comment at Beth's site and now here I am leaving one at yours -- it's a record day for this lurker. Anyway, it's too early to think but Google is on duty at all times. And you know, Google seems to have the answer to the woodchuck question. From the http://www.raptureready.com/faq/faq50.html site:

The amount of wood that woodchucks would chuck on a given day varies greatly with the individual woodchuck. According to a Wall Street Journal article, New York State wildlife expert Richard Thomas found that a woodchuck could chuck around 35 cubic feet of dirt in the course of digging a burrow. Thomas reasoned that if a woodchuck could chuck wood, he would chuck an amount equal to 700 pounds.

Thank goodness for Google. Anyway, I love your site, and you always bring a smile to my face. Thanks.

Posted by: laura floyd at January 5, 2005 10:04 AM

Ron Jeremy was on the Weakest Link the other night on the Game Show Network. That british chick kept calling him a "performer" and then snickering.

Posted by: Karen at January 5, 2005 10:13 AM

When I was in LA on business, I spent the entire time searching for a brush with fame. On my last day there, I went down to Hollywood Blvd. to site see and finally saw me a celeb...Ron Jeremy. Feh.

Posted by: kalisah at January 5, 2005 10:24 AM

"5. What would you like to see more of here on Rude Cactus?"

I would like to see alot of prize give-aways. Yes, a special drawing should be set up once a week for a $5000 prize to the best commenter. Named Jon. From Michigan.

And some dancing. There's not enough dancing going on and we need a little but more of that here.

Lunch. What the heck is for lunch anyway?

Posted by: Jon in Michigan at January 5, 2005 10:25 AM

Same answer as always: MORE AUDIO BLOGS! And Beth should do them, too.

Posted by: alektra at January 5, 2005 10:30 AM

Yay meetings! You should start having "theme" meetings, where everyone must wear or bring something related to the theme. Fun ideas:

Bagels
Safari
Domesticated livestock
The Amish

Posted by: Dawnie at January 5, 2005 10:31 AM

I have no idea what will happen on Lost tonight...but I can't wait to see!

Happy New Year Chris.

De-Lurked Cindy

Posted by: Cindy at January 5, 2005 10:48 AM

Well, I'm not a TOTAL lurker, but I have been lately, haven't I?

Ron Jeremy: no matter how short, ugly, and fat you are, you too can bang porn stars. Plus there's that whole contrast of his height versus, um, yeah. It's freaky. He repulses everyone, and I think that's why they like him.

Posted by: Anne at January 5, 2005 10:51 AM

6. Explain the appeal of Ron Jeremy in 500 words or less.

Ron Jeremy is hope to all fat disgusting guys who happen to have a monster penis. He's old, he's fat and is able to please the most agressive porn stars on the planet. I could just sum this up in one word: penis

Posted by: Lee at January 5, 2005 10:54 AM

I can't wait to find out what happens on lost tonight! And not a lurker here, I have too much to day LOL

Posted by: Nina at January 5, 2005 11:07 AM

Hi Chris!

The answer is: 52

Posted by: Charmless at January 5, 2005 11:12 AM

2. Lost? Lost?? Eff that, Alias is back!! Getcher priorities straight, whack. ;-P

5. Mini-scripts, how I love them.

Posted by: Bond Girl at January 5, 2005 11:14 AM

Hollywood - well let's see--- pretentious MBA/Lawyer types running the studios and treating the creative people like crap does not help the quality of films being made. Its about the bottom line, not about how good the film is, sadly. Fortunately, I write pretty commercial stuff. lol

Oh, and? GO USC NATIONAL CHAMPS!

Posted by: amy at January 5, 2005 11:15 AM

Ron Jeremy? It's not going to take 500 words, just one: Yuck! Ron Jeremy = no appeal whatsoever. And thanks for the comment on my site; here's to both of us having an exciting Wednesday! =D

Posted by: Jennie at January 5, 2005 11:16 AM

I love your blog!

Can't wait for LOST tonight! I do need to catch up with one TiVoed episode I missed but YAY! LOST!I think the baby will come tonight, maybe??

Posted by: JuJuBee at January 5, 2005 11:17 AM

Ooooh, so excited about Lost! Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it seem like in one way or another, everyone on the island is getting what they want? The little boy saw the polar bear in his comic book, then ta da, polar bear. Locke's is obvious, since gee he's walking again and playing Hunter. What'sherface wanted freedom, but she didn't necessarily deserve it, so she's free on the island, but still trapped. And Jack, his Father wanted to drink but it killed him, so even in the afterlife he's leading his son to drink. As for who will get their wish tonight, maybe that pregnant lady - deep down it seems she wanted someone else to raise her child, maybe she'll get her wish. (I think it's obvious the show's been gone too long - I've forgotten everyone's names!)

Posted by: Heather at January 5, 2005 11:18 AM

Now I have to feel guilty all day for being a lurker. I love the rude cactus but I do not love how you make my brain hurt by putting "ron jeremy" and "appeal" right next to each other. Ouch!

Posted by: Jenny at January 5, 2005 11:25 AM

Ron Jeremy? Ick, ick, ick, ick, ick. Unless you are into that whole human-on-animal thing. Then the hedgehog might do something for you. But mostly? ICK

Posted by: Granola Spice at January 5, 2005 11:31 AM

ok...I have a question..what's the appeal with Lost...I don't get it...anyone wanna hazard an explanation?

Posted by: wn at January 5, 2005 11:51 AM

who is ron jeremy? And is this is something every other hip human knows? Then let me just say you too will be out-of-touch with hip-ness once you have children. There's just no time!

Posted by: kelly at January 5, 2005 11:57 AM

I think Mao Tse-Tung's Great Leap Forward impacted Chinese communism...ok I'm going to stop right there 'cause I have no clue.

Posted by: Wendy at January 5, 2005 12:02 PM

Apparently, men who watch porn don't like the men in their porn movies to be too pretty. I think it distracts them from all of the banging of the hot chicks.

Posted by: Dabney at January 5, 2005 12:15 PM

Okay I am going to use that idea just like gs did on hers... i doubt i will get any results but it's worth a try...
1. don't care, most of the movies lately have sucked ass.
2. don't watch the show lost, therefore i am.
3. Umm skip it, i am not into news & current events... i just don't watch it or read it. bad i know.
4. a woodchuck would chuck as much wood as he could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
5. i'd like to see... well nothing but maybe a link to mysite ;)
6. i don't care for ron jeremy

have fun in todays meetings & I love the new hair cut!!!

Posted by: angel at January 5, 2005 12:16 PM

I don't know about the woodchuck but...

How high could a horsefly fly if a horsefly could fly high?

Geri-curl perm
Beer gut with stretch marks
Chipmunk cheeks
Obligatory nakedness in every movie

What's not to love ?

Well, I've commented here a couple times before and was surprised that you really *do* e-mail your commenters. Then I felt kind of bad because you were taking time out of your busy schedule to response to my inane comments, so I figured I'd shut up unless I REALLY REALLY had to say something. But hey, since you asked...

Ok, I came out of hiding for a change. Your topics require too much thought for a Wednesday, working with too little sleep.

I can comment that Ron Jeremy is skeevy. John Holmes was too. Ick. I don't care how big their schlongs were, they are gross.

Now I have to go read blogs about pretty flowers and wholesome things...

I thought I was the only one who sang "eep op ork" to themselves!

Go for the max comments today!

Okay, I'm going to bastardize and probably poorly credit this quote somewhat since I don't have the reference handy and can't remember it fully - not to mention I'm lazy and can't bother googling it:

"You say that there is nothing to write about. Then write to me that there is nothing to write about."

I believe Plato said that.

And I agree, I've nothing to write about.

Ron Jeremy: How did he get that gig anyway? ::shudder::

Posted by: shelley the lurker at January 5, 2005 1:37 PM

How many times do I have to comment before you finally make a post on the music equipment you have?

Ron Jeremy is a fat, greasy bastard, but if you can, uh, do that thing on command, you're hired.

I have come out of hiding a few times, but I am a bit embarassed. My hair cannot compete with yours, Chris.

Ron Jeremy appeals to people??...or just YOU?

Posted by: Dave at January 5, 2005 2:04 PM

About the only appeal that I can find for Ron Jeremy is that he was in one of my all-time favorite movies, Boondock Saints. And he didn't get nekkid, which was the biggest appeal of all.

So, everyone, have at it!

Big time lurker here. Thought I would obey the rules of De-lurking Day and comment. So hi.

And Lost. What is going to happen tonight? Awesomeness. Cause the show rules. And I feel like a major geek because I'm sitting here at work and am COMPLETELY excited about the Lost/Alias combo that is happening tonight. Seriously, I'm giddy like a schoolgirl. J.J. Abrams is my anti-drug.

Can we all expect comments from you as well?

Also, not that I find him appealing, but I watched Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy and I think he's kinda fascinating. Because... what the hell??!

Posted by: bmh at January 5, 2005 4:07 PM

I don't know how you manage to get people to delurk. Most of my readers are lurkers and they never comment, even when I ask them to comment. Geez.

Man do I love me some Cactus and some Fish too. What would I do without you both.

Also, if someone would tell me how Ron Jeremy became a porn star I would really like to know. I mean ewwww! Is it because most of that is watched by men and men don't care what they are looking at?

Posted by: becky at January 5, 2005 5:35 PM

My comment is in regard to Lost:

I love the show, but I fear it's going to go the way of Gilligan's Island. So far, in every episode, the writers have managed to ingeniously meld the sordid past of a particular character with his or her current experience on the island. But, what is going to happen when they run out of characters with sordid pasts? For that matter, who's even left for tonight's episode? The hippy guy maybe?

Therefore, my prediction is that the dumb blonde girl is gonna screw up their getting rescued, after which the castaways will sit around a long wooden table and enjoy a freshly made coconut creme pie.

Posted by: Debbie at January 5, 2005 5:45 PM

Ron Jeremy *shudders* Oh, gross.

And Lost? I don't know if I care so much what happens as long as they show heaps of Doctah' Lurve.

Posted by: Jenni at January 5, 2005 6:36 PM

1. hollywood declined back in the 20s when the mob took over.
2. never watched lost, sorry.
3. my earlobe itches.
4. however much wood you gave it to chuck. (geez.)
5. more hysterical photo stories like the "dress me, bloggers!" bit. hysterical!
6. men don't find him intimidating.

I know I'm a day late, but then again, that's not new for me...

Lurking is one of the things I do best, and I probably will continue to do it... especially since I rarely have witty comments to add.
