Kahn Artistry

I might have stumbled onto musical genius. Wait. I think its actually just talentless, dorky crap. Yeah. That's it. Anyway, I discovered Warp 11, a punk/hardcore band with...wait for it...a Star Trek obsession. No, I'm not making this up. I don't have that kind of imagination this early.

2001 saw Warp 11's debut release, Suck My Spock, which brought us instant classics like Wormhole, Montalban, and, of course, the stirring title track. The band's 2002 followup, Red Alert reaffirmed their place as the only best Star Trek hardcore/punk band in the universe, delivering knockouts like Suds Me Up Sulu, Warpcore On The Dancefloor, and Everything I Do (I Do With William Shatner). This year, Warp 11 returned, unleashing Boldly Go Down On Me. And how can you go wrong with songs like Rage Against The Federation, Give It Up For The Captain, and - my personal favorite - Set Your Phasers to Fuck?

To set the record straight, I do not own any of this stuff...nor am I planning to. Really. I swear. Don't look at me like that...

paranoid are we? It's OK Chris, we already KNOW about your dork-tendencies and STILL LIKE YOU!

Posted by: wn at April 5, 2005 7:51 AM

I'm actually really interested to hear a snippet of this stuff. Their fans seem to adore them, and if they are managing to still make cd's I wonder what that says...

I'l admit to having a little Star Trek in my blood. One of my favorite childhood memories is watching Farpoint, that very first night. Burned in my memory. As if the last show years and years later. So I'm dork, I accept this. It's not like i know how to speak Klingon, anymore at least. (that's really a language you have to use ot keep.)

What? Hey, don't you look at me like that...

You so do own this. Admit it, and we'll admit things...

Like that DVD version of the Transformers movie?

Posted by: alektra at April 5, 2005 8:13 AM

Wait, there's a DVD version of the Transformers movie? Where can I get that? My man would love that!

Posted by: Autumn at April 5, 2005 8:35 AM

That sounds really really bad!

Posted by: JustAgirl at April 5, 2005 9:46 AM

hahahaha I have to pass this along to my husband-- he is a big time Trekkie (without the costumes, and convention attendance, natch)

Posted by: bluepoppy at April 5, 2005 9:49 AM

Awwww shucks! Amazon doesn't put clips of their songs online.I wanted to hear some dork-rock.

Speaking of which, check out the Phenomenauts (cross Devo with the Stray Cats and grab the band members from your IT department)They played on G4's "The Screen Savers'" final show and I actually thought they rocked.

i'm sorry, what's this Star.. Trek you speak of?

Posted by: jodi at April 5, 2005 10:12 AM

Good god. Trekkies even have to have their own porn soundtracks.

Posted by: QC at April 5, 2005 10:32 AM

Wierd! ok... so really, though. Warp 11 is a Sacramento band, and well, guess what? I am from Sacramento! Get out! Anyway... I've had the pleasure, or shall I say displeasure, to have seen them a few times when they opened for my favorite local band The Brodys. Warp 11's music isn't bad... or at least the first quarter of any song you might hear... but then it gets to the point where you really just want them to stop. That's been my experience.

Posted by: Dubs at April 5, 2005 11:01 AM

my link didn't work ;( visit The Brodys at www.brodys.com! Awesome band! Cool guys!

Posted by: Dubs at April 5, 2005 11:03 AM

I think "set your phasers to fuck" is going to have to be owned by me just for the sake of playing it when mom comes over so that I can take a picture of the look on her face! LOL

Boldly Go Down On Me. Suck My Spock. Hee. Hi, I'm eleven.

Posted by: Fraulein N at April 5, 2005 11:49 AM

Hmm. I think you're sounding just a little too intrigued by this. You secretly love them, don't you?

Posted by: Heather at April 5, 2005 1:13 PM

"Good god. Trekkies even have to have their own porn soundtracks."

Too funny! But why am I not surprised?

These guys can't be any worse than William Shatner himself. Ever hear his version of "Mr. Tambourine Man"?

Posted by: Jason at April 5, 2005 4:07 PM

This is...really truly scary...:/

(hiding under my desk).

Posted by: Amy at April 5, 2005 4:25 PM

oh my god. i must tell my roommate about this band. i'm not sure how she feels about punk/hardcore, but she is a complete trekkie. she went to a trekkie convention in philadelphia, came back, and was like "omg i was in the same room with william shatner!!!". she practically cried when she found out that enterprise was being cancelled.)

Posted by: Denise at April 5, 2005 5:26 PM

*Drooool.* No. Really. I'm a geek. And punk/rock? I can totally dig that.

But no, I haven't seen Trekkies 2. My hubby won't let me. He said one was enough. Feh.

But then again, he doesn't control the NetFlix account. Muwahahahahahaha.
