Meeting Hell, Day Two

Um, hi. Day two of meeting hell. Yesterday went well but I'm exhausted. Of course, the exhaustion was compounded by the fact that Mia didn't want to sleep last night. Not to mention the fact that I had some odd dreams...like the one in which my old boss fell on hard times and became a male prostitute.

I know, I know...lamest post ever, right? Agreed. But it's all I got this morning. I have to go meet people now, and act professional and say shit like "we could really add value by..." Wish me luck. Or patience.

That sounds like more fun than I can even put into words right now. I'm so tempted to crawl back into bed just for the warmness factor...but I gotta go to work. Stupid 5am shift. Gr.

we could really add value by ... not having to go through two days of meetings like that. You're a stronger man than me. Well I'm not a man, umm or strong. But you get the point.

Here's what I don't get:

All you business people know 1/2 the stuff you say sounds like hokey business crap. Why is that?

Anyway, good luck with that. I'm off to write.

Good luck! I'm hoping that I can get out of my own conference call today, since we seemed to get some stuff settled during yesterday's meeting.

Your "about" section says you're a "wannabe rock star." Looking at your calendar below and seeing this post today...now is when I ask...so what are you doing about the rock star part? ;)

I TOTALLY undestand. I work full time. If the baby doesn't sleep, you still have to go to work and act like you have your wits about you. Act being the key word.
Good luck for some sleep soon! It should get a lot better in the next month or two.

was your old boss' name "Frank Garvin" by any chance? hehe.

I think you should just play corporate bingo or something. Try to get through the day. Or fake a baby vomit stain on your shirt. Maybe that will give you the baby points you deserve.

Hugs, man. I got woken up at 1am by my brain last night. Send Mia to me, I don't get any sleep anyway...

I had a dream last night that I was playing poker in Vegas with Billy Joel. I kept asking him when he was gonna do another album, telling him all the kids today just thought he was a drunk driver who looked like Horatio Sanz and he had to do something to save his cred.

What doesn't kill us from boredom eventually becomes great blog fodder.

That dream about the boss is loaded with potential hidden meaning! HAHA!

do you want some cheese with that whine, buddy? :-P at least you are important. i'm expendable-- so useless that right now i am sitting here looking at customer account numbers and placing random words with the codes. example: customer code WOSA01 reminds me of the word "WOOSAW" from that one movie with will smith and martin lawrence... please end my suffering!

Hi Chris,

Just wanted to say hi and ask you to check out this site.
It's really powerful and moving...and a very accurate picture of how things are in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Congratulations on the baby...she's beautiful.

I feel like luck won't help. Just lots of patience and an occasional drink.

Wishing you Joy and Happiness this Holiday Season!

Have I already left a comment? This lack of concentration thing is killing me. I wish you luck! It'll all be better tonight when you get home and can squish Mia's little cheekies. :)

Nope. Instead, I wish you humor. Because irreverence will get you farther in meetings.

Well, that or lithium.

I don't know your boss, but only one thought came to mind.

Hang in there!

Posted by: Oakley at October 13, 2005 5:27 PM

Well, to cheer you up I'll let you know you've officially been blocked from me at work. Hmph. grumble.

Talk about cruel and unusual punishment...nothing like a slew of meetings to make one's head spin. I've always marvelled at the concept that the higher I rose in the corporate world, the more time I spent in meetings! Did anything ever actually get accomplished? Not really. We spent more time talking about issues than actually resolving them.

Nowadays in my vanilla middle management job, I still have some meetings to contend with but they are not nearly as long or repetitive as the ones I had to go to when I was a department head. I also find that these meetings do help me get in touch with my creative writing...I'll pretend to be taking copious amounts of notes, but in reality I'll be working on some poem or a brainstorming about something more relevant. Its the only way I know how to cope during these things!

Be well.
