Like The DaVinci Code...Only With Ringtones

One thing I forgot to mention, what with it being a crazy weekend and pretty crappy week last week. Beth and I got new phones! Yeah, boring. If you're anything like us, you get new phones ever couple of years and have a drawer full of old ones in your kitchen. Why did I ever wait to share the revelatory news, eh? But they're cool phones. They're cool, sleek (and dare I say sexy?) Motorola Razrs. I would have mentioned it sooner but they arrived about five minutes before we put the cat to sleep, and while I wish that was a clever euphemism for something else much more festive, sadly, it isn't. To be honest, nothing sucks the fun out of an exciting purchase like death.

Anyway, I have this problem with cell phones - the ringers aren't loud enough, or at least haven't been on my previous phones. I even went way out of the way to make sure I could hear my last one installing a unique and different ring tone so that I could differentiate my phone from everyone else’s. I still missed calls all the damn time. I'm happy to report that the Razr has a mighty howl but, knowing my Selective Cell Phone Deafness (SCPD), I added a ring tone surely no one else has, one that will grab my attention every time. Guess it and you win a custom-made CD. Here's all I'll give you as far as clues go:

The song captured in the ring tone is an anthem with a killer intro performed by a band that's current but definitely not young (they have been, in fact, saluted by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). They're picture-perfect rebels who debuted on the charts in the late seventies and have been charting ever since.

First one with the right answer - title and artist - wins. Knowing me the way you do, you might figure I'd have thrown some clues into the clues themselves. You'd be right.

Remember, if you won a CD from me last week, make sure you send me your address. I'll be mailing them out soon!

I'm so musically challenged that there's no point in me venturing a guess. Is it something by the Stones?

Posted by: HR Mommy at May 2, 2006 7:22 AM

I'm sure I should know the band that cranks out your ringtone, but alas, I am at a loss. Ummm, AC/DC -- Back In Black. LOL I know I'm WAY off!

At any rate, YAY on your Razrs!!! My fiance and I just got our very own Razrs about 2 weeks ago and we LOVE them! (Mine's pink so we can differentiate between them!) And, I agree, I've had trouble hearing my phone ring amongst other people as well as being in my purse or a pocket, but the Razr seems to have fixed that. Deaf no more to my cell phone am I.

Posted by: ironic1 at May 2, 2006 7:23 AM

Ooops -you said the 70s didn't you?

Posted by: HR Mommy at May 2, 2006 7:23 AM

I LOVE cell phone. Love, love, love them. I get a new one pretty much every year because my phone plan allows me to do that.

I had a Razr briefly. I thought it was so cute. That was before they came out in pink. If they had pink ones in stock when I got mine, I might have kept my phone. That's right - KEPT. I took it back because my hands are too small and holding the phone was uncomfortable, so I ended up with a (much smaller, but thicker) Sony Ericsson.

I'm such a wuss. I couldn't sacrifice hand pain for coolness.

Posted by: Emily at May 2, 2006 7:29 AM

something by aerosmith? dude looks like a lady?? hehehehe.... j/k :)

Posted by: Corinne at May 2, 2006 7:38 AM

Damn, I remember the 70's (most of them, anyway), I should know this.

Is it YMCA by the Village People?

Posted by: Contrary at May 2, 2006 7:44 AM

nice I've rocked the razr since December and its a great phone, full of my own customized ring-tones. However I had a big problem with the screen, dust would get in it somehow because it wasn't properly sealed and it was hard to read the screen. My co-workers had the same issues with it so we all returned them to get replacements w/ the 1 year warranty and the new ones work like a charm, no dust. Enjoy!

Posted by: E at May 2, 2006 7:50 AM

Ok, I'm going with U2's "New Year's Day".

Posted by: amber at May 2, 2006 7:52 AM

Oh, the late seventies thing I think puts my guess out of the running. I was going to guess Guns-n-Roses 'Sweet Child O Mine'.

That's what my ringtone is. :)

Posted by: Alissa at May 2, 2006 7:53 AM

My guess is - Rebel Rebel by the Rolling Stones?

The other day a cell phone scared me to death - the ringtone was set for Crazy Train and of course itopened with the creepy laughing part. Husband was stoked, I almost had a heart attack. Also, that phone was LOUD.

Posted by: samantha at May 2, 2006 7:54 AM

Aerosmith? Janie's got a gun? *wanders off to ponder this some more*

Posted by: Lauren at May 2, 2006 7:56 AM

I have a cheap ass phone that won't hold a charge and I've just been waiting for a recommendation for a NEW phone! Thank you, Rebel!

Posted by: kristen at May 2, 2006 7:57 AM

Lack of loudness is a problem. To counteract the problem as best as I can I have it's loudest possible setting and on vibrate, too, so it buzzes first and helps attract my attention. I also have a very novel and exceptionally rare ring tone:

It actually RINGS.

Yup. You read right. No tune, no novelty noises, no funny ditty or music rip off, no Mozart, no Rolling Stones or Status Quo or Beatles (although that WOULD be cool...); just RRINNG RIIING... That way when it goes off, I always KNOW it's mine, as in my experience people and their mobiles (only the last six years of which included me actually having one of my own) I have not once found anybody that uses the same system I do.

In fact, forget rare; I could be bloody well unique!

Posted by: Alice at May 2, 2006 8:00 AM

U2 - Beautiful day

I SO rock!!

Posted by: doobyus at May 2, 2006 8:11 AM

:::comes back for another guess::: ZZ Top?

Posted by: Lauren at May 2, 2006 8:19 AM

Hey Chris, I think I am a little late, but I believe Malcom and Angus's band are shaking your pants with back in black...before you get a call, I salute you! Here is a thought, put some Tommy Page ring tones in there and I promise you will never miss another call....although you may feel the need to run over your phone.

Posted by: Lydia's and Angus's Daddy at May 2, 2006 8:19 AM

If you're anywhere near the coolness of my phone, you are definetly sporting Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. *DUNT.DUNT DUNT DUNT. DUNT DUNT DUNNNNN**

Posted by: Michelle at May 2, 2006 8:25 AM

If you're anywhere near the coolness of my phone, you are definetly sporting Eye of the Tiger by Survivor. *DUNT. DUNT DUNT DUNT. DUNT DUNT DUNNNNN**

Posted by: Michelle at May 2, 2006 8:25 AM

smoke on the water? by deep purple or some major hit by U2? Oh thats 2 guesses....I stick with the first one...

Posted by: Dee at May 2, 2006 8:41 AM

I have to go with U2, but not sure on the song...Sunday Bloody Sunday? Bullet the Blue Sky? Pride (in the name of love)? Ok, I'll stop now.

Posted by: JuJuBee at May 2, 2006 8:44 AM

Congrats on the new phones. I hope they take pictures that you plan to post.

I'd love to be in the running for the custom made cd, but haven't a real idea.

Posted by: cas at May 2, 2006 8:50 AM

Born to Run?

Posted by: Allan at May 2, 2006 8:56 AM

The Clash

Posted by: kalisah at May 2, 2006 8:58 AM

I have absolutely no idea and since I'm working on about no sleep I don't think I'll guess because I'd probably just end up embarrassing myself by guessing something totally lame.

I've been thinking about getting the Razr (we are in need of a new plan so that means new phones since we're switching carriers) but I'll probably not end up getting it because I don't really need all those features. You'll have to let us know what you think of the phone.

Posted by: Jessie at May 2, 2006 9:18 AM

Rolling Stones, I can't get no Satisfaction.

That is my best guess. Sorry about Pixel, my heart broke when I had to put my last cat to sleep, I had worked for 6 weeks to save him.

Posted by: Goodsnake at May 2, 2006 9:30 AM

I'll never get this one, but I'm throwing out two ideas anyway.

"Easy Lover" by Genesis (for the intro, you know)
"Hells Bells" by AC/DC (have they been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame yet???)

Posted by: wordgirl at May 2, 2006 9:31 AM

killer intro? "pour some sugar on me," but that's not my first guess. my first guess i can't remember the name of. it's on the tip of my fingers...it's van halen, i'm pretty sure. not "jump," but the other one i can't think the name of. darnit.

Posted by: RzDrms at May 2, 2006 9:35 AM

No offense to Beth but is it....Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls?

Posted by: jennifer at May 2, 2006 9:38 AM

"love walks in." i knew i'd remember the name! (hope that's it.)

Posted by: RzDrms at May 2, 2006 9:40 AM

Aerosmith? Eat the Rich?

Posted by: Jenn at May 2, 2006 9:48 AM

"Freeze Frame" by the J. Geils Band.

I thought "picture-perfect" was a clue and this was the first thing I thought of. Hee-hee!

Posted by: Beth in StL at May 2, 2006 9:54 AM

Queen's I Want It All And if that isn't it could someone tell me how to get it on my phone? It's got a killer intro.

Posted by: Nic at May 2, 2006 10:00 AM

Mine plays Ride of the Valkyries. My son's screams INCOMING - nobody could ignore that.

No clue on the music, darn it.

Posted by: ann adams at May 2, 2006 10:03 AM

Radiohead - The National Anthem???

RAZRs kick A@$!!

I couldn't find the ringtone I wanted either (Miss Gulch's Theme (or the theme of the Wicked Witch of the West (no... no real reason... HA!))) But then, what's more fun than creating a ringtone that no one else then has??? :D

Posted by: Deepblue at May 2, 2006 10:09 AM

I never hear my cell phone ring either. Unless I'm in the library and the ringer is still turned all the way up! Mine, too, is old school plain old ring. It's pretty unique!!

I am going to guess U2, Sunday Bloody Sunday (a killer intro). I think someone else already guessed it, but I'm just throwing it out there as my final answer!

Posted by: ms. q at May 2, 2006 10:09 AM

Kiss... it's that one... you know... I wanna rock & roll all night... and party everyday... :)

(Unless you've seen Harold and Kumar... Rock & Roll all night, and part of everyday!... LOL!)

Posted by: Karen at May 2, 2006 10:10 AM

If your like me it had to be the intro to ANY RUSH tune. But hey I'm not wanting to give my age away... Hope you have a great day Chris..
Rock on....

Posted by: Jennifer at May 2, 2006 10:23 AM

Oh and yeah the song would have to be YYZ... Sorry to have not mentioned in earlier email. Ciao!

Posted by: Jennifer at May 2, 2006 10:26 AM

My first thought was Back in Black by AC/DC (young = Young brothers. current = High Voltage, Powerage etc... but I see someone beat me to it. That's what I get for coming in to work late, I guess.

Posted by: bad penguin at May 2, 2006 10:27 AM

I suffer from a total inability to remember song titles, so I'm not even going to try this one. Enjoy the new phones, though.

Posted by: Kate the Shrew at May 2, 2006 10:27 AM

I have NO FREAKING IDEA.... but I'm going to guess Aerosmith - Dream On. Cuz I love that song. heeh

Posted by: Manda at May 2, 2006 10:36 AM

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers..
American Girl

Posted by: fauve at May 2, 2006 10:37 AM

I wanna say THE ROLLING STONES? But, I think they first charted in the 60's....I give up!

Posted by: Michelle at May 2, 2006 10:38 AM

heh - *my* cellphone plays "Planet Z" by the B-52s, but I would (still) reccomend "Big Balls" by AC/DC. The embaressment factor would make it possible for you to pick up the phone in record time!

Posted by: Betti at May 2, 2006 10:43 AM

Can't be a Rush tune because those bastards that run the TTHoF wouldn't know a good rock band if it blasted them on their ass. My guess is Def Leopard - Photograph

Posted by: Mike at May 2, 2006 10:56 AM

Yay for new cell phones. Mine isn't a razor but it's way cool - even has some nifty little camcorder ability on it. I love downloading new ringtones.

I was so goign to guess Back in Black by AC/DC.

Posted by: VirgoJen at May 2, 2006 10:58 AM

For Those About to Rock (We Salute You), AC/DC ?

Posted by: Melissa at May 2, 2006 10:59 AM

hmm. the first part screams ac/dc, but i'm not so sure about the second part.

so i'm going to guess for those about to rock (we salute you) by acdc because everyone else is guessing back in black

Posted by: Denise at May 2, 2006 11:08 AM

That would be RRHoF not TTHoF above (for those scatching their heads about that)

Posted by: Mike at May 2, 2006 11:09 AM

Where the Streets have no Name - U2

Posted by: Sue at May 2, 2006 11:25 AM

Def Leppard. Doesn't matter becaues I love them anyhow.

My ringer is a bawking chicken...I can always hear that.

Posted by: Michele at May 2, 2006 11:29 AM

It's "Someone Up There Loves Me" by Sandi Patti isn't it? Just fess up.

Posted by: Carrisa at May 2, 2006 11:38 AM

Is it God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols?? Cuz it would be super cool if it was. hehe

Posted by: Betty at May 2, 2006 11:42 AM

Eesh! I should have read the rest of the clue, eh? lol

Eesh! I should have read the rest of the clue, eh? lol

Posted by: Betty at May 2, 2006 11:44 AM

I have no idea who it is. Cannot even venture a guess. But you know a ringtone I heard once that I TOTALLY love? The theme from the horror movie Halloween. I think it's appropriate for my feelings of impending doom whenever the phone rings, heh.

Posted by: Spring at May 2, 2006 11:44 AM

Have no idea.

But donate those old phones to a battered women's shelter or something! You need the drawer space for binkies.

Posted by: bhd at May 2, 2006 11:54 AM

I don't have a guess, but felt the need to share that my boyfriend's ringtone is The Hustle, which makes me so happy that I could never have it as my own. I would be too busy actually doing the hustle.

Posted by: Melissa at May 2, 2006 12:10 PM

Too busy doing the hustle to answer the phone, that is.

Posted by: Melissa at May 2, 2006 12:11 PM

There's a great Led Zepplin song that is the happiest little song and I can never remember the song title!

Gimme a minute.

Posted by: Pammer at May 2, 2006 12:17 PM

Led Zeppelin
Fool In the Rain

Awesome beginning. Impossible not to dance to it.

Posted by: Pammer at May 2, 2006 12:21 PM

i have no clue. and i'm hanging my head in shame.

however, whatever tune you chose, it can't be nearly as cool and unique as mine: the theme from the muppet show.

top that! :P

Posted by: suze at May 2, 2006 12:39 PM

I heard Sister Christian in the car on the way home last night. Now, when I try to guess your anthem, all I can hear in my head is "MOTORIN'!" Which is a pretty awesome ringtone, now that I (involuntarily) think of it.

Posted by: Vaguely Urban at May 2, 2006 12:50 PM

not to rain on your cellular parade, but i HATE my razr phone. @(#$&*#$(@&)!)!$#@.

Is it Queen?

(god i love queen...)

Posted by: b at May 2, 2006 1:03 PM

can i get two guesses? my second guess is U2...

Posted by: master b at May 2, 2006 1:07 PM

(i meant to type, U2, "Pride" (in the name of love))

Posted by: master b at May 2, 2006 1:16 PM

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Who needs your cool new Razr? I'm perfectly happy with my three year old crappy Nextel that doesn't even take pictures. Hmph. I'm not jealous of you, your wife, or Hoop who's been showing off his new Razr for two months now. I hope they bring you lots of happiness. *Goes off to pout* ;)

Posted by: Tink at May 2, 2006 1:21 PM

I don't even remember artist/song titles that I listen to. How am I supposed to guess yours?

Posted by: Queen of Ass at May 2, 2006 1:37 PM

after much pondering and thought and consulting, we're going with Sunday Bloody Sunday, U2.

Posted by: colleen at May 2, 2006 1:39 PM

Damn.. I am too late... I was beat by Melissa with "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)", AC/DC.

Anywho, I have a magenta colored Razr and I love it!!! Have fun....!

Posted by: ::c:: at May 2, 2006 1:41 PM

It has got to be U2. Right? Sunday Bloody Sunday. Or Where the Streets have no name?

Posted by: oakley at May 2, 2006 1:43 PM

Ohh, I had the For Those About to Rock, AC/DC song playing in my head right now.

Have fun.

Posted by: chantel at May 2, 2006 1:57 PM

I have no guess... but I have the same problem. Here's what I do - I have a loud ring tone - Kanye West - Gold Digger. Everyone else hears it but me. But one of them always says, isn't that your phone. Works every time.

Did you get the Pink Razor??? I am coveting that dam phone.

Posted by: Melissa at May 2, 2006 2:35 PM

I have the opening riff (the MP3, not the Muzak/polyphonic version) to "Highway to Hell" on my Razr. If that's yours as well, why, how creepy.

Posted by: Jason at May 2, 2006 3:02 PM

Jason's ringtone is AC/DC Highway to hell, the ring on my phone for when Jason calls me is AC/DC Back in Black.. lol

Mine - Sweet Child o Mine, but I think I'm going to change it to Margaritaville for the summer.. so everytime my phone rings I can cry about not being on an island drinking a margi..

Posted by: HipMamaB at May 2, 2006 3:10 PM

I too have the problem where everyone hears my cel phone but me. I seem to have a particular problem hearing through white noise.
I have no guess, but want to share the happy news that I too got a new phone...the Palm Treo 650. I heart it. (It was the same price as the RAZR, so, yknow, why not?)

Posted by: Heather at May 2, 2006 3:17 PM

Ok, here's my entry (after much hemming and hawing and brain explosions due to your clue):

Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen

It meets all of your clue criteria, even if it ends up being wrong :)

On a side note, my hubby's ringtone is Crazy Train which has a killer intro. It has scared the bejeezus out of me on several occasions.

I'll track back to this from my blog later, it's been a crazy day here at casa de Crazedmommy.

Shash

Posted by: Shash at May 2, 2006 3:49 PM

Dude, quit your hiding. I so KNOW that it's ALL THAT SHE WANTS by ACE OF BASE. I salute that shit all the damn time. Congrats to me.

Posted by: andy at May 2, 2006 3:56 PM

Dear lord, I have no idea. If it was *my* ringtone (and if I could have something cool, which I can't), I would take the repeat of "EMI" from the song of the same name by the Sex Pistols. Or maybe the opening of "Train In Vain" by The Clash.

But, since it's you, I'm going to guess something by Genesis. I can never, ever remember the names of the songs, though, so that's as far as I'm going.

Posted by: candace at May 2, 2006 4:05 PM

Sex Pistols, Anarchy in the U.K.

Posted by: jackassjimmy at May 2, 2006 4:41 PM

The meester has a razr, it's pretty loud. Then again, his ringtone is a Metallica song. :oP

Posted by: statia at May 2, 2006 5:25 PM

I have no clue. But congrats on the new phones!

Posted by: Lisa B at May 2, 2006 6:08 PM

My guess is For Those About To Rock by AC/DC. I spent the past forty minutes looking it up. With another reference librarian. Because when someone presents us with a challenge, WE MUST SOLVE IT.

Except I just gave up and picked a song. Heh.

Posted by: Rhonda at May 2, 2006 7:52 PM

If I were gonna guess I would agree with Rhonda there...but I am not going to guess...but

I have a question!!! Is the RAZR a hearty phone? I drop my phone a lot because I am clutz and my samsung just keeps on going even though I have dropped in the road several times and it took one particularly bad spill at a target. I too am up for a new phone...and want to consider my options...

So do you think it is drop-able?

Posted by: Amy at May 2, 2006 7:56 PM

I have a few more guesses:

The Eagles: Hotel California
Aerosmith: Walk This Way or Sweet Emotion

There. I"m done.

Posted by: Pammer at May 2, 2006 8:17 PM

After much thought, I'll have to go with U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Posted by: Jen at May 2, 2006 8:28 PM

Not one for guessing the song, no way my brain will function that well tonight, but if I were going too, Id have to suggest, Beth by kiss...Beth I hear you calling, but I cant come hmoe right now....

And....old phones, perfect toys for Mia...

Posted by: shannon at May 2, 2006 8:31 PM

OH oh!! I got it!!!!

*hands on hips* Why, YES! I do happen to think I am VERY funny thankyouverymuch! *stomps off*

Posted by: Lauren at May 2, 2006 9:50 PM

You both got Razrs? My husband would be so jealous. No clue on the ring tone...

Posted by: Jules at May 2, 2006 10:26 PM

I have different rings for different friends. For one of my friends, who's slightly on the vain side, I've got "I'm too Sexy" by Right Said Fred. When I'm at his place, I grab his phone and call myself with it. Drives him nuts every time!! lol.

Posted by: Jill at May 2, 2006 11:06 PM

Originally I was going to say "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2, then I thought, wait... The Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop" talk about an everlasting band, that are rebels, but haven't been charting lately. Still, either two are awesome, and you should download them on your phone. Can I have a CD anyway? I feel left out.

Cheers, Brother Chris
