Practice
I picked up my Fender and played hard through a few songs. It's been awhile since I spent any time doing some really solid playing. I was a bit rusty. My hands hurt. I'm out of practice.
The hat? There's a story there, of course. Last year when I got a promotion Beth went out and bought sombreros for us to wear - it was a Promotion Fiesta! This year, I just got a raise (wasn't expecting a promotion) so the hats were a little more understated.

I'd love to learn how to play guitar, but I think I have too many hobbies as it is. Nice hat!
Posted by: Spring at August 19, 2006 1:32 PMAlways on the cutting edge of fashion, aren't you Chris? I'm off to Goodwill to get mine now! LOL Have a great weekend man.
Tommy
Congrats on the raise! Always nice to get that little pat on the back. Now keep the fender out of the closet and keep those hands in shape!
Posted by: Keri at August 19, 2006 2:38 PMCongratulations to you, Seņor Cactus.
Posted by: alektra at August 19, 2006 3:50 PMI totally remember the sombero slide show!
Rawk On Chris!
Posted by: Kate at August 19, 2006 5:04 PMAnd I did also remember how to actually spell SOMBRERO...but my fingers didn't! AHHAHAHAHA
Posted by: Kate at August 19, 2006 5:05 PMLooking good! Does the hat help you play better?
Posted by: Dennis at August 19, 2006 5:26 PMThat hat rocks! Congrats on the raise, too.
Posted by: KathyK at August 19, 2006 7:06 PMNice hat (good times...), nice raise! sweeeeet.... Congrats!!!
Posted by: haley-o at August 19, 2006 8:24 PMI have the same problem with the connection between my fingers and my brain. Those aren't spelling errors you see in my comments; they're typos.
Good for you picking up the guitar again. I'm very rusty on the piano (even though one sits in my living room taking up space). I play for the girls and that's about it for me anymore.
Posted by: ann adams at August 19, 2006 9:17 PMI had an old boyfriend that tried to teach me to play guitar... I didn't get very far... about the 2nd or 3rd lesson, he then said, you might want to cut your fingernails, and I said he might want to not teach me anymore, cause that wasn't happening.
I figured if all 3 of my brothers could play, I should be able to too, only not at the expense of my nails.
Nice hat. Nice Fender, too. Stay in practice.
Posted by: Karen at August 19, 2006 9:45 PMI hadn't played guitar in eons, either, but a few weeks ago I played and now I have calluses again, so it doesn't hurt...except for the now-arthritic finger i broke in eighth grade playing kickball. Keep up the good work. ;-)
And to Karen - I always have a hard time sacrificing my female vanity so that I can play guitar and piano. I hate having short nails.
Always nice to read your posts Chris. I've told so many stories ... there's this blog I read. Tonight at a party it was about lettuce smashing and Fahrvergfucked. My life would not be the same with out the Cactus.
Posted by: Heather at August 19, 2006 10:57 PMOne of these days I'm going to start taking guitar lessons. I need to get back to playing the piano too. Someday.
Posted by: Beth in StL at August 19, 2006 11:05 PMLooks like a nice cold cervesa would look good with the hat and guitar playing. Do you play Flamenco?
Here's to your raise. And I raise my glass to you! Congratulations!
My best to Beth and Mia Bean.
Tootles,
Anni :-)
Those were some kick-ass sombreros you got last year. Congratulations on the raise. The hat will do I guess...
Posted by: Dee at August 20, 2006 1:26 AMcongrats on the raise, love the hats!!
Posted by: kristied at August 20, 2006 9:20 AMWooo! Nothing says "celebration" like a sombrero.
Posted by: Kristen at August 20, 2006 11:24 AMSo, if next year, you are pictured in a yarmulke, we can assume that things are not going well, work-wise? Love the hat. The sombreros are excellent.
Posted by: Annie at August 20, 2006 11:15 PMi like the last picture. it has a howdy ma'am quality to it.
Posted by: jodi at August 21, 2006 2:13 AMA raise is definitely a good enough reason to engage in a "sombrero fiesta!"
Posted by: Zandria at August 21, 2006 8:49 AMCongrats. Very nice hat. Darn it, Annie beat me to the yarmulke joke!
Posted by: Kate the Shrew at August 21, 2006 10:10 AMGood job, getting the raise.
My kids would love your hat.
Posted by: Sarah, Goon Squad Sarah at August 21, 2006 2:00 PMHooray for more money. It's good to be apprecaited at work. Very good.
