The Incredible Hump Day Delurking and Commenting Extravaganza

Today, I have a singular lack of brilliant content. But I do have an insanely cute daughter with an affinity for condiments.

Since I'm suffering from this massive mental block, caused I'm sure by working way too much over the past couple of days, I'd like your help with a little housekeeping. See, I use a newsreader to catch up on everything that's happening with you all. The only way I know to update it is from comments. So whether you comment here everyday or once in a while, pop open the comment window and drop me a line. Don't have a blog or just lurk? Come on out and say hey too!

I'm off to down my sorrows in coffee and kick off the work day.

Is that maple syrup she's sucking on?
FEED THAT CHILD!

Also?
Those are the cleanest goddamned floors ever.

Posted by: Pamalamadingdong at October 4, 2006 7:24 AM

My fridge has a surprising lack of Reddi-Whip. Must remedy that post-haste.

Posted by: Nicole at October 4, 2006 7:36 AM

Line....drop!

Have a good one Rude.

Posted by: Wicked H at October 4, 2006 7:38 AM

I hope your payin' that kid an allowance. It's obvious she takes her job seriously, even if I'm not quite sure what her job is.

Posted by: Contrary at October 4, 2006 7:40 AM

I think Beth's claim of "World's Most Adorable Child" is amazingly accurate. This may be because I don't have children myself, but I'll live vicariously through you, mmk?
Also, that line? I'm dropping it like it' hot, yo.

Posted by: Heather at October 4, 2006 7:45 AM

So very lacking brainpower this morning... coffee not helping...
Nothing brillant to comment...

Posted by: Stephanie at October 4, 2006 7:55 AM

This condiment thing is funny as we have discussed getting a new fridge. One of the things we like about a side-by-side is that when we have little ones, they can fetch things from the lower drawers and shelves, if they so desire. This makes me laugh, though, as Mia seems to desire EVERYTHING! :o)

Don't forget to change your feed for me - I moved!

Posted by: Emily at October 4, 2006 7:58 AM

The picture in the lower right corner looks like she is sucking on a Michelob bottle.I know it isn't but first glance was disarming (we taught our daughter to bring us beers but not sip on them as she carried them to us in our lazy boys).

Ok, We don't own Lazy Boys.

Posted by: Arwen at October 4, 2006 7:58 AM

Here ya go. I'm dropping you a line. Thanks for not posting anything deep or insightful this morning, 'cause I'm just not feeling it today. :)

Posted by: Alissa at October 4, 2006 7:59 AM

Those pics of Mia remind me of the time I came out of the shower to find Julia sitting on the floor with the fridge door open, shovelling spoonfuls of powdered creamer into her mouth.

Posted by: mamatulip at October 4, 2006 8:00 AM

Mmmm....Nothing like a well-balanced meal of syrup, rediwhip, ketchup and wine?? Is that green bottle wine?! Either way, your daughter is adorable and hopefully not getting into boozing at an early age...Also becareful with the rediwhip, wouldn't want her to start doing any whipits!! lol ;P

Posted by: Michelle at October 4, 2006 8:00 AM

*yawn* g'mornin'... why am I so freakin' tired when my child sleeps better than he's ever slept??? I'm guessing my body is trying to play catch up??? What gives!? Anyways... it was great seeing your lovely wife yesterday... but seriously, we need to all get together!!

Posted by: Corinne at October 4, 2006 8:01 AM

Dropping a line - Flagellan entered my conversation yesterday.

Posted by: Heather at October 4, 2006 8:02 AM

She is a serious little soldier!

I don't think it's necessarily the condiments. I think it's all about the containers. My kids had their own drawer of containers--margarine bowls with leads, Tupperware, old oatmeal boxes, old pots and pans, etc. They'd bang away, put stuff in containers...occupied for HOURS!

(No--neither of them cook.)

Posted by: kristen at October 4, 2006 8:04 AM

She looks so determined!

Meanwhile, I'm having one of those weeks too so I know how you feel. I hope yours gets better.

Posted by: E :) at October 4, 2006 8:08 AM

Awww. Perhaps when Dorrie is mobile I should clean? The house, the fridge - do you think? Hmm...

Posted by: Leah at October 4, 2006 8:10 AM

Not a lurker but saying hi anyway. Love those pictures of Mia!

Posted by: donna at October 4, 2006 8:18 AM

Has anyone ever told you that you have the cutest family ever??
DUH... of course they have!
You are a lucky man :)

Nothing thoughtful for me today either. Thinking about taking the Colbert theme to another level and posting a "Threat Down" list...

Posted by: Mel at October 4, 2006 8:20 AM

What a cutie patootie. I'm glad she's feeling better.

And hey! It's Wednesday! So we're almost to Friday, right?

Mornin'!

Posted by: Amanda at October 4, 2006 8:23 AM

It would have been really cute if she managed to get the top off the Ready Whip....

When my son was about 3 or 4 he thought it would be fun to give the dog a Ready Whip mustache and beard. The dog enjoyed it too!

Posted by: Lisa at October 4, 2006 8:24 AM

One of my sisters used to put Fisher Price people in the mayonnaise when she was Mia's age.

Must be an early interest in cooking!

Posted by: Katherine at October 4, 2006 8:32 AM

here and accounted for! redi-whip? you're letting the Bean do whip-its already! wow, i waited til Cam was at least 3.

Posted by: monique at October 4, 2006 8:33 AM

Our 11mth old son loves the fridge as well. Anytime the door gets opened he crawls over and trys to climb in.

Posted by: Bill at October 4, 2006 8:39 AM

it's not even 9am and you already have 26 comments? whoa. hee. you get more comments in a day than i do pretty much all month i think. that amuses me for some reason.

Posted by: pea at October 4, 2006 8:42 AM

Howdy from Tyson's Corner. All is well here, and I am getting married. A year and a half in DC has been good for me in that I am successful in my job and found the man of my dreams. I still enjoy reading about you everyday and look forward to more.

Posted by: goodsnake at October 4, 2006 8:43 AM

You should dress her up as a bottle of maple syrup for Halloween. She's so cute!

Posted by: Jenn at October 4, 2006 8:44 AM

I don't know if it counts as de-lurking if I've posted a comment maybe once before, but just in case - HI!

Posted by: sparkles anon at October 4, 2006 8:44 AM

Oh my god. We have the exact same pictures. OK, except that it was my kid, and my pictures have a basket of dirty laundry in the background, and my floors need swept, and my fridge is a side-by-side... Ally was 14 months old. Must be the age for it.

Posted by: ktjrdn at October 4, 2006 8:51 AM

For lack of anything better to say, I'll just mention that I love the photo montage's you post, and I hope that my kids are half as adorable (ok, twice as adorable - but that's not a very nice thing to say) as Mia.

Been reading for a few weeks now; ever since poop & boogies went on vacation and recommended your blog in the interim.

Keep up the good work. :)

Posted by: Adam at October 4, 2006 8:52 AM

Hey. Lurker leaving comment as requested. :)

Posted by: martin at October 4, 2006 8:55 AM

line dropped.

she's hysterical.
and you are totally like me. i would just stand there, with the camera, taking pictures while my kid took out all the condiments and tried to pry them open with the few teeth that she's got.
well done! :)

Posted by: ali at October 4, 2006 8:55 AM

Really....you're just looking for comments aren't you? ;)

Oh, and I love that microwavable syrup. I want waffles now.

Other than that, it's a wonderful day.

Good morning.

You know you, Beth and Mia are number 1 on my hit parade. I have several blogs listed in my favorites but yours and Beth's are the one I come to first and when there isn't anything new I just keep checking back in. Great pics of Mia!
Hugs,

Posted by: Pat (Trish) at October 4, 2006 9:43 AM

It's sort of amazing how much Mia is starting to look like her mom.

Wednesdays are just as awful as Mondays, I think.

Posted by: kara marie at October 4, 2006 9:49 AM

your giant fridge makes me green with envy. ours is smaller than your condiment-loving child and has issues staying closed.

someone already mentioned it- but man, those ARE some clean floors. eighteen points!

Posted by: meg at October 4, 2006 9:49 AM

"Line!"

You know, a toddler's job is to vector chaos, and it looks like she's doing that admirably. :)

Posted by: Kate the Shrew at October 4, 2006 9:53 AM

Let me pick up this line I just dropped...

I agree that Mia looks just like her mama! Yet those cheeks are still so squishably babyish and cute! How do you not melt every day from the cuteness of it all?

P.S. I have a bottle of worsestershire sauce in the fridge that I think Mia would like.

these days I'm mostly wondering how it is that you 2 waited 12 years in your relationship to have a kid??

Posted by: Lisa at October 4, 2006 10:10 AM

Hello!

Posted by: fauve at October 4, 2006 10:10 AM

I dropped the line but Vincent ran and picked it up before I could hit send. Okay that was lame.

Vincent also loves systematically emptying the refrigerator of it's contents. I'm working on him sponging off the shelves once he gets them emptied. LOL

Vincent has recently developed a habit of grabbing large handfuls of whatever snack I'm laying out for him and cramming it in his mouth as if he's never fed. Though he's big for his age (13 months now, though everyone swears he looks like a two year old), I've begun to worry that people will think we actually either starve him or feed him 9 day old gruel. Has Mia developed this habit by any chance?

Posted by: hr mommy at October 4, 2006 10:11 AM

Helped the 8th grader study for his Social Studies test on - you guessed it - EXPLORERS! Managed (just barely) not to say the word 'Flagellan'. Who needs more parent-teacher conference fodder?? (Answer: Not I.)
Peace!

Posted by: lilymane at October 4, 2006 10:16 AM

I don't know how I feel about you using your daughter (as incredibly cute as she is) to take over your blog on days you can't come up with anything. Strikes me as a little stage-mommy.

I'm over it now.

Posted by: Del at October 4, 2006 10:19 AM

Hey there. I'm tired, sick, and cranky, but since you asked for comments so nicely, here I am. I love how you captured Mia methodically removing everything from the fridge door!

Posted by: Jen at October 4, 2006 10:45 AM

Dude, like that 1st comment---I could not help but notice how metrosexually clean those floors are. I don't even sweep for shit's sake. I just imagine your house smelling like some sort of strange flower/fruit combination that I can't distinguish and don't really like but am secretly impressed by. Journey on.

So here I am, alive and in need of coffee but I have to wait on getting coffee since I have a staff meeting in an hour and I know if I get coffee now, I will just keep getting up during the meeting to leave and that won't work because I'm the one who takes the minutes.

Posted by: Jo at October 4, 2006 9:08 PM

Often I'm torn between a) posting just for the sake of posting (Hi. I'm fine. Went to work. Came home. Nothing exciting happened. The End.) or b) not posting at all for like a month. If I choose option b) then my parents and grandparents call me and say "what is wrong with you?! Where are you and why haven't you written anything in 23 days? We're worried sick."

I can't decide which is worse. :) But at least they read it, right? Wish I had an insanely cute kid of my own to post pics of on those days when I've got nothin'. Mia is too cute! And just for the record...even on the days when you say you've got nothin', your blog is always a fun read.

Mmmmm, condiments. A gal after my own heart.

She IS a cutie! Too sweet!

And, HI!

Posted by: Janet at October 4, 2006 11:12 PM

Hey, I've been away about 2.5 weeks visiting the fam on teh east coast. Am way behind on posts butu will be getting up to speed, post haste. Glad to see Mia is better and I'm not the only one who doesn't know what to do for anniversaries. And, Flagellan? Gold.

Posted by: Annie at October 5, 2006 12:10 AM

Wow, look at those condiments. I remember being so hungry and so broke one time in college that I ate some ketchup for dinner. That was fun. Wonderful pictures as always!

Posted by: Beth in StL at October 5, 2006 12:59 AM

I just mentioned you and Beth in a post at Wannabe Hippie, so yeah, now would be a good time to read. ;)

I would have yelled at my kids to close the damn refrigerator door. Your wasting electricity!!! I've turned into my mother. Help!

Although if they were as cute as Mia, it'd be more tolerable.

hi! I have a blog and it also has pictures of my 1 year old emptying out the fridge. We got him a Fridge Farm (http://www.leapfrog.com/do/findproduct?ageGroupKey=infant&key=fridgefarm) and now that keeps him very entertained on the outside of the fridge! I have to confess that I like the Farm too. :)

She is seriously too darn cute. And I love how you arranged the pictures!

Posted by: Isabel at October 5, 2006 5:41 PM

Hi! Sorry. I'm late. I was in San Antonio trying not to melt.

Posted by: Karen at October 6, 2006 12:13 AM

Can she possibly be any cuter?

Posted by: Nadine at October 6, 2006 6:09 AM

You, my friend, are a comment whore and a child condimentographer. (Those aren't necessarily bad things, but I felt it was my responsibility to point it out.) Happy long weekend!

Blog? Yeah. :) Just wondering if you can speak Czech..:)

Besides, great photo set today.

A little late, but de-lurking. You already know how adorable your kid is, you don't need me to tell you that.
