[Insert Clever Title About Returning From Vacation Here]

Well, we're back.

I've written about the fact hat we're looking into the idea of moving. I realized yesterday what's wrong with our current neighborhood - no sand, ocean, umbrellas, boardwalks, beach-side restaurants, or fruity drinks with little swords and umbrellas in them.

Reality, as they say, bites, my friends. Not too terribly hard, though, because I'm taking the rest of the week off to spend with Beth and Mia. Oh, and I'm working on the house. Just in case we go through with that whole moving thing.

You wanted pictures but I took, like, 300 of them. And all I wanted to do last night was plop my white untanned ass (because it wasn't that kind of beach) on our purple couch, catch up on a little TiVo action and sleep in my own bed. Sleeping in your own bed is always nice. Especially after sleeping on such a terrible one. After our first night in what was, otherwise, a very nice hotel:

Me: Sleeping on that bed is more uncomfortable than sleeping on a dead hooker.
Her: No. I bet the dead hooker's more comfortable.
Me: Eh, probably right.

Anyway, I'm working on the pictures, and the inevitable recap. But I'm not there yet.

In short, it was awesome. Mia was incredible - she loved the beach (after taking a day to warm up to the idea), traveled perfectly and seemingly enjoyed everything. She also entered a new phase in which she added about a gazillion words a day to her vocabulary which kept us on our toes. My little girl is insanely incredible, people.

More tomorrow. So, what have I missed with you guys? Come on, you know you want tell me! Spill.

Planted the garden, played with the puppies and had a gazillion zen moments to clear my mind. I think it's working.

A little over a week ago, we made a spontaneous decision to move too. We're meeting with the loan officer today to find out if it's actually doable. So I've spent the last week waiting. And mentally planning and decorating every inch of the new house.

Not much I'm afraid. We're preparing for Elcie's 8th grade graduation tomorrow. She's been agonizing for weeks. One would think it was college.

Seriously, we're very proud of her. Next year - high school!!

In my experience, dead hookers tend to be lumpy and in some cases, a little stinky too.

Posted by: Contrary at May 30, 2007 9:39 AM

I'm GREEN. ;-)

I'm still working. I didn't go into the office this weekend, but I did grill/cook all three days for people I hardly know. And I think I have some stomach buy.

Have fun with your girls.

I know what you mean - on our vaca, the only problem with the whole shebang was the mattress. We called it the "Sorta Sleeper"...

mmm...beach! We spent the whole weekend on our new boat... well not completly ours - went in with my sister and her fiance...but it was awesome!

I cleared a bunch of brush out of this dead area behind my house and built a deck there. In two days. My lower back keeps asking me "WTF, yo?", but I now have a deck on the back of a more or less newly remodeled worth it. I've done just about everything to this place now and the equity I've built is majestic, but O Lord the work it required.

So, good luck on whatever it is you need to do to your place. Let me know if you need a deck in a jiffy (maybe a good name for a company...Deck-in-Jiffy? Jiffy Deck?) Are you just transitioning to a different part of NoVa?

We went to the beach too! We up and traveled to Gulf Shores, AL from St. Louis Missouri (home). And guess what, you are right! We both landed jobs down there and ARE MOVING TO THE BEACH! I figure you live once and we can always come back! I will be teaching special education for the school district and my hubby will be working in a factory. Am I insane for doing all this while pregnant? Eh...BEACH BABY! Glad you had an awesome time with your crew! We are sunburnt and glad to be home in our own bed as well! Hubby was not fond of having to stop a trillion times so I could pee (pregnant anyone?) during a 10 hour drive.

Brandon Rush withdrew from the NBA draft because of a torn ACL. Kansas fans are hoping it will heal in enough time to have him play and get us that national championship next year.

Glad you enjoyed the vacation. Maybe you could tan your ass while working outside on your house. (Or is it not that type of neigborhood?)

Glad to hear you had a great vacation. Maybe you can tan your white ass while working outside on your house. (Or is it not that kind of neighbourhood?)

OK, how did that post twice? I thought I had canceled it because of a misspelling, so I retyped it and there it is twice. Aaaggghhh!!!! Computers.

Posted by: Heather at May 30, 2007 12:01 PM

That's exactly what's wrong with my neighborhood as well. How did you know?

We flew a kite shaped like a butterfly, which Sully thought was great until it dive-bombed him a few times... lots of swinging on various swings... and then Sully got sick. So he's all swollen-eyed, and nasty now. Poor thing.

Everyone should live at the beach. I lived 15 minutes from one my whole life, and it is the greatest thing in the world. Some day we're going to move to Delaware, around Rehobeth Beach... I've never met the Atlantic. I wonder if it is half as good as my Pacific.

Glad you guys had fun, and sorry about your worse-than-a-dead-hooker mattress.

I ate about 80 billion donuts and nursed a bad migraine the entire weekend. Life has been kooky lately.

Posted by: Sparkle Pants at May 30, 2007 1:03 PM

Welcome home! Glad you had such a good time. Where did you go?

Posted by: Zandria at May 30, 2007 1:10 PM

Graduated law school (cum laude!).

Posted by: alektra at May 30, 2007 1:27 PM

Not much. BBQ's, chillin, getting stupid tickets. Just regular life.

You know I live near a beach and I rarely go to it. Maybe it's because there aren't little umbrella's in my drinks. And I have to bring my own drinks. Sounds like you guys had a blast though. Welcome back.

Posted by: Phoenix at May 30, 2007 1:40 PM

We need to coordinate our vacation time. I have nothing to read at lunch when you and Beth aren't around!

While you were gone - I slept. I spent Memorial Day weekend catching up on some seriously needed rest. It's been raining here for about a month - no kidding. I now see why the suicide rate in Seattle is so high. How can people really take all of this rain? I can't believe I'm wishing for the heat that takes your breath away, but that's what I'm used to. I like it. :o)

Can't wait to see the pictures - welcome home!

Posted by: Emily at May 30, 2007 1:44 PM

Welcome back, dude.

If I had a nickel for every time I came back from Key West/Asheville/Capri/Cap Ferrat/Kauai and committed to somehow finding a way to live there, I'd have money left over for to pay the staff I'd hire there for a year. I keep telling myself it's never as good as it seems when you're visiting.

But I bet it is.

I came out of the closet!

Ok, I didn't. But that way way more exciting than saying I did laundry and worked on the ayrd.

I came out of the closet!

Ok, I didn't really. But wasn't that way more exciting than hearing that I did laundry and worked in the yard?

Posted by: Sphincter at May 30, 2007 6:30 PM

(hey! that first one was supposed to have been erased. now i really wish I had something as exciting as coming out of the closet to say for myself...)

Posted by: Sphincter at May 30, 2007 6:40 PM

We aren't vacationing until mid-October on the I will make it through the summer I'm unsure.

Posted by: FENICLE at May 30, 2007 8:37 PM

Glad you had a nice vacation. Didn't do much here besides work and take a sick baby to the doctor.

Just curious... now that you're back. Would you mind spilling which beach you went to? I understand if that's too much information to give out. The pics over at Beth's look very familiar and we have a place at Myrtle...

Posted by: Courtney at May 30, 2007 9:47 PM

Drove to Maryland over the weekend, saw a few monuments and walked around in DC, went broke in Georgetown...all the while thought that I wish I could contact you guys (though I knew you guys were prolly out!)...your vacation sounds amazing (looks it too, in the pics on Beth's site)

Posted by: Dee at May 30, 2007 10:00 PM

Watching it rain...

Posted by: sue at May 31, 2007 11:11 AM

return of morning sickness. "Second Trimester is easy" my arse.

Posted by: Betti at May 31, 2007 4:41 PM

One day you must visit a beach where you can get a tan bottom. :-)

(did I miss what beach you guys went to? I'd love to I'm always looking for new beach ideas. )

(I said "new" and not "nude", right?)

Me: Eh, probably right.

Ok, this is sooo not important but something is bugging me about this. Maybe I am just not reading it right. You say the bed is more uncomfortable than sleeping on a dead hooker and she says the dead hooker is more basically you are both saying the exact same thing, just in a different way.... Am I right? I looked through the comments and no one else said anything so I must just be an idiot and can not understand what you are trying to say.
