Mia New Blue Hat!

Whoever said that money doesn't buy happiness obviously never bought a $17 baseball hat for their daughter.

Mia has long been in love with my Washington Nationals baseball hat, dada blue hat as she calls it. The only baseball hat she owns screams I'm One! which is only accurate for a few more days. I told her it was time for a new one. I told her, last week, that we'd take some time during the weekend to get Mia a blue hat like daddy's. Mia new blue hat she said. I agreed.

Saturday found us walking through the local mall. We hit the sporting goods store. No luck. We walked through a couple of department stores. No luck. At one point I asked her to help me look. Do you see any hats I asked. She wandered through the mall shouting any hats? like a homeless dude looking for small change. It was hilarious.

Eventually, we found a hat store. In it - remarkably - we found hats. Blue hats. Mia sized blue hats. Bliss.

I paid the $17 and before the cashier could even think about breaking out a bag, Mia put it on. Then she walked through the mall proudly pointing at her hat shouting MIA BLUE HAT! while people looked and smiled. She ate lunch in the hat, napped in the hat, held it on her head while I changed her diapers and went to bed wearing that hat. We haven't been able to get it off of her since. Never have I seen her so happy about a thing and it humbles me to know that it's largely because her daddy has one just like it.

So, while money doesn't buy perpetual happiness, it does buy a few little pieces of it. It's the best $17 I've ever spent.

That's awesome! Making your kid happy is most definitely the best feeling in the world.

So, where are the photos of Mia New Blue Hat?

That is so painfully adorable!

"She wandered through the mall shouting any hats? like a homeless dude looking for small change." My god, I'm dying. The mental image makes me laugh so, so hard..

Can we get a picture of this blue hat? I'm very into the visuals... :P

Posted by: fauve at July 18, 2007 10:25 AM

I may very well die from the cuteness!!! Now hit me w/ that picture big daddy!! lol

Posted by: Kris at July 18, 2007 10:33 AM

See, ordinarily I would say "holy crap, $17 for a hat that fits a toddler!!!" but that amount of joy is priceless. Well spent money there daddy-o.

P.S. Can't wait to see the photos!!

She might spend most of her time with Mommy, but it sounds like you have a Daddy's Girl on your hands...must have a blue hat because Daddy has one...how absolutely sweet. Now, as everyone else has said...where's the picture?

Posted by: Krush at July 18, 2007 10:38 AM

We must have pictures please.

Posted by: ann adams at July 18, 2007 10:39 AM

I LOVE THAT STORY!!

Posted by: kalisah at July 18, 2007 10:44 AM

That is so sweet. I have an old flannel shirt of my father's that I used to beg to wear when I was a kid. It was like an oversized dress then; now it's just comfortably roomy. He gave it to me when I went away to college and I still wear it whenever I feel lonely and far away from my family.

Posted by: Liz at July 18, 2007 10:59 AM

Awww, that's so sweet. And yes, pictures please ... before I have to start yelling any pictures? like a homeless dude looking for change. :-)

it's amazing that it truly is the little things that make children happy! (and parents too!):)

Posted by: ali at July 18, 2007 12:10 PM

The best had to be her shouting MIA BLUE HAT! through the mall... well, that, and watching her wear it non-stop.

Gotta love "little" things like this!

My 4 yr old loves to wear any shirt that buttons down the front. She calls them "work shirts" because my hubby wears button down dress shirts to work everyday. Everytime she puts one on, she runs in to show my hubby how they are wearing the same kind of shirt. One day, my hubby took her to work with him. She spent almost 30 minutes trying to figure out which "work shirt" to wear. Little girls love their daddies so very much.

so sweet.

Sure, it starts with blue hats and then it’s purple bikes. From there it’s black prom dresses and silver belly rings, and then that changes to “just give me the money” and then on to college and new cars. Get ready, because you’ll be buying happiness for some time to come. Yessiree.

Wait, wait, there's no picture. I need proof.

Kids are awesome.

Posted by: Phoenix at July 18, 2007 3:38 PM

I agree that pictures are necessary.

I'd also like to reiterate, from a kid who comes from a crap home with crap parents, that Mia is lucky as hell to have the two of you. Keep doing what you're doing. You guys amaze me every day. That might sound dumb, or overly-emotional, but trust me... you two are great, great parents. Mia couldn't do any better.
