The Day Of The Ninja
December 5th (that's today for those of you not paying very good attention) is recognized throughout the known world as Ninja Day (I'm not making this up)? There are, of course, geographical differences in the name and how its celebrated. In some corners of the world it's called Creep Like A Ninja Day. In other locales it's Stalk Like A Ninja Day, Sneak Like A Ninja Day, or Move Like A Ninja Day. In Los Angeles, it's Beverly Hills Ninja Day (R.I.P. Chris Farley) (And, okay, I did make that one up).
Why is this significant? In the dark of night and the wee hours of the morning while most of you were sleeping, I crept, ninja-like, into my mid-thirties. As mid as you can get, actually. Onward and upward, I guess, since getting older is preferable to the alternative.

Happy Birthday to you! You share the same birthday as my little brother who today enters the last year of his thirties. Don't be too sorry for him though - he has been taunting me something awful since May when I entered my forties. (Mind you, at least I still have my hair and my eyesight)

Posted by: jodi at December 5, 2007 9:31 AMYay! Birthdays are fun! I hope yours today is amazing. Did you get your present from Beth yet?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
No wonder you looked so rough in that photo, you were having your mid-life crisis.
(You do know that you're supposed to wait until 45 for that now, don't you?)
Posted by: Poppy at December 5, 2007 9:37 AMHappy birthday! Hopefully you called in a snow day and are relaxing at home, gazing at all that shiny new paint.
Posted by: Laura GF at December 5, 2007 9:48 AMHappy Ninja Birthday, Chris!
I'm 35 too and it is not so bad. The 2 year old keeps me pretty young.
(Mind you the long, long days make me feel double this age, but I digress. :))
Posted by: Jacqueline at December 5, 2007 9:51 AMHappy Birthday Chris! May the next 35 be even better.

postcript - in playing almost any game (word, board, video...even in arguments), my husband has figured out that the word NINJA or NINJA-LIKE is almost always the best answer. It's sad, but it's true!

Posted by: Sparkle Pants at December 5, 2007 8:32 PMWell if 50 is the new 40 as the media is explaining as I write this, you will never get stuck in the ninja pose unvoluntarily.
Happy Happy Birthday, my friend.
Posted by: Steff at December 5, 2007 9:59 PMHappy Birthday Ninja Cactus. Welcome to the mids and on ups. We from the on ups are happy to have you nearer to our club. It is special here.
Posted by: Amy at December 5, 2007 11:15 PMBryan 8/17 (and our best friend Jeff 8/9) have declared August "The Month of Pleasure" because of their birthdays. On August 1st, they call each other, start the festivities, become generally obnoxious... and it goes on (AND ON) for the whole month. You should consider doing the same. It makes it much easier to slink toward your FORTIES as we old folks are.
Oh, and they have annexed into September to include Declan (9/13), so the 1st two weeks of September are now Dextoberfest.
Either way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY NINJA. You rock.

Oops, totally missed that yesterday..
Happy belated birthday!
Posted by: mikkie at December 6, 2007 8:08 AMHappy Birthday (a day late). Glad it was a good one!
Posted by: Jessie at December 6, 2007 8:53 AMHappy Belated Birthday.
My one reason to consider marriage again; good presents on my birthday. With teenagers in the house I'm more or less guaranteed some sort of ceramic jar with something stupid on it about being cool.
Posted by: chantel at December 6, 2007 12:37 PMHappy Belated Birthday.

Posted by: chantel at December 6, 2007 12:38 PMHappy (belated) birthday! Mid-30s aren't so bad. But the mid-to-late 30s kind of sneak up when you're not looking.
Now come over to my place and wish me one too!
Posted by: Jen at December 6, 2007 1:40 PMhappy happy birthday...yesterday~ glad it was a great day. Onward and upward...
Posted by: michele at December 6, 2007 2:32 PMSo technically would the mid-thirties extend from 32.5 to 37.5? I'm in that range, and not looking forward to exiting it.
Enjoy your mid-thirties, while they last...
Happy belated birthday. I remember 35...I think that was the year I started losing my mind.
Posted by: Darren at December 6, 2007 5:24 PMA day late and (possibly more than) a dollar short, but I hope it was happy anyway!!! Here's to yet another great year!!!
