My day is rather mild, compared to yours. If I have meetings, they're no more than 30 min. before school or 1 hour after school -- it's all contractual. If there's a meeting scheduled that falls outside of our contractual obligations, we teachers tend to not go to it. We already don't make enough money and find our time usurped by extra planning or thinking about issues with kids, parents, etc... sometimes, a contract is a beautiful thing.

I'm further crippled by the fact that I need to get between 7-8 hours of sleep a night in order to be a functioning person the next day. Throw cooking, general housework, and American Idol in there, and it's ovah. Gah! And I don't even have kids yet...

Kudos to you for being an overachiever and packing all that you can into every waking moment!

OK, see, that's why I don't accomplish as much as you. I get up at 5:15, but even if I put it off until 5:35 like you do, I couldn't stay up until 11:30. I am rarely awake past 10 PM :-)

8:15a-3pm mess around on computer, read, watch tv, cook food for lunch & dinner
3pm -4pm nap (sigh...)
4pm-9:30pm mess around on computer, read, watch tv, eat dinner
9:30pm body still thinks it has to be up at 5am so starts to shut down...
10pm sleep
5am... body wakes up because it's had 7 hours of sleep and it's used to functioning on only that...

at least that why I'm here at 5:17am on a Wednesday morning when I HAVE NO JOB!!!!

We have one thing in common about our days (at least): "Curse self for not being independently wealthy." My husband and I lament that fact on a daily basis. With baby #1 on the way shortly we both wish we had the time to just stay home and get everything ready for her instead of going to work and doing all kinds of things we don't want to do.

Other than that, my day looks like: Get out of bed earlier than expected due to being kicked in the ribs, eat breakfast, clean self, head to work, read, write, meeting, write, read, write, head home, cook dinner, collapse on couch until can't keep eyes open, re-collapse in bed.

I live such an exciting life.

Today I have Weight Watchers, (25 pounds down since the New Year!) then I have to come home and clean this house like I have a maid to do such things, as my oldest friend is coming with her family to ski. I also need to organize the fridge, put out towels and change my own sheets!
Oh and my dog went into heat yesterday, so that's always fun.

I wish I could get up that early on purpose AND get ready for work that quickly but really how do you go to sleep so late and get up so early? I am a night owl so mornings are hell. Night owl these days means 11-11:30p but still 5:30a??? ACK.

I get up at 6:30a, stumble about getting Matthew ready for the day, Kevin comes out after his 5 minute shower, getting dressed, etc and it takes me at least 30-40 minutes to get ready AND I look no better then I did when I woke up an hour earlier. I get my lunch ready and get out of the house by 7:30a. Drop Matthew off at day care and have to be to work by 8:00a sharp (takes 5 minutes to get to work from the place where Matthew does daycare.) Work all morning. Eat lunch at my desk. Work out for real lunch. Work all afternoon. Head home right at 5:10p or so. Pick Matthew up at 5:15p or so. Make dinner OR play with Matthew depending on whose day it is to make supper. Bath and/or get Matthew ready for bed (read, run around shrieking, etc...) by 8:00p or SO. Go back and get Matthew to sleep for 1 hour until 9:00p. Sit in front of TV with drool running down my chin (not really on the later but the former definitely.) Get ready for bed and go to sleep around 11:00 or so. I used to read in the evenings but lately my brain is fried so just TV and some times I bake. It is calming, okay?!

Right now, we're in the "Elliot almost sleeps through the night" phase so my night usually involves a couple wakings with him. Then I take about an hour between 6:15 and 7:20 to: eat oatmeal, shower, feed the boy, dress the boy, get all stuff together and then drive to daycare. Work involves about an hour of email catching up and blogging. Work all day and leave by 4:45 to go home and: wash bottles,cook dinner, feed the boy, sweep hair from floors, play with boy and try to give dogs some love, then by 8-8:30, put boy to sleep.

And then, I feel sort of at a loss and sometimes I nap and sometimes I read or watch TV until 11 when I go to sleep somehow very exhausted. But that's because my kid if 6 months old!

As a grad student, time is a relative concept. Now that I'm finishing up the Master's thesis, it's even more relative. So, currently, I wake up, make a smoothie, 'build' lunch (sandwich, Dagwood-style), drive to campus, sit at desk, write, weep, write, open thesaurus, pray, finish a paragraph, spend time tying then quickly untying a noose after talking myself out of 'it', write some more, read a few science journals to make sure what I've written isn't from The Land of Make-Believe, cry a little more, eat lunch, rinse, repeat.

I love it, though. It beats the hell of your meetings. I did that sort of thing for awhile and it slowly destroyed me. Besides, crying is a good release.

Before I stayed home with the kids, my day looked like yours, except that with my hubby traveling Mon-Fri, there was no blog time, reading time, and some days even a shower was out of reach. I had to make lunches for the next day, do the laundry, pay the bills, clean the house, sort the mail, and attempt to get our screaming baby to do something other than scream. It sucked.

So, now I stay home and I just started homeschooling my Kindergartner.

8:00AM - feed kids, sit at computer and read emails, look at calendar to make sure I don't forget to be somewhere
8:20 - start homeschool
9:00 - listen to her read her readers while I push laundry through
9:15 - coach her on addition as I unload dishwasher
9:45 - read several books about Russian myths, fables, and fairytales to daughter. Talk about the stories and how they are same/diff from stories she reads.
10:05 - Give her an assignment to write her own Russian story, setting her up with paper, crayons, and a pencil. Ask her to make it at least 3 pages, with at least two sentences on each page, and a picture to go with it.
10:08 - vacuum entire downstairs, stop constantly to say "ooh" and "ahh" at all the coloring pages my 2 yr old makes
10:20 - peek over her shoulder, it is looking good, make 2yr old leave her sister alone so she can work
10:22 - give 2 yr old her pretend vacuum, head upstairs to vacuum with her.
10:45 - Start making lunch - grilled cheese and soup
11:15 - clean-up lunch, put dishes in dishwasher
11:30 - Little one goes upstairs for rest time by herself, Big one and I sit at table and work on science assignment for the day.
12:30 - Big one joins little one upstairs for another hour of rest time. I pay the bills, arrange travel plans for hubby (flights, hotels, rental cars, maps, etc), and do his expense reports (which suck)
1:00 - finish developing spreadsheet for Girl Scouts event so I can merge the registration info into name badges for over 150 participants. Why did I volunteer to be an event coordinator again?
1:30 - girls come back down, bounding with a newfound energy - I would send them out to play, but it is raining.
1:45 - Wrestle kids into clothes, find matching shoes for everyone, hastily scribble out a grocery list, and head out the door. As I get to the truck, I remember I left my keys on the counter where I stopped to make the list. Desperately search for where I hid the hide-a-key. Finally get inside and grab keys. Now kids need to go pee. Everyone pees and we are finally on the way to the store.
2:55 - back home, groceries unpacked, kids on my nerves since they still haven't played outside today.
3:15 - send them out to play in soggy backyard....with mudboots on. Cringe at the thought of all that mud that will be tracked in on my clean floor
3:35 - receive phone call from other girl scout leader asking if the volunteer they signed up can work the softball throw instead of the hula hoop since she has a bad back. Reminded her it was the kids, not the volunteer that would actually be hula-hooping.....
3:50 - spend 10 minutes reading Time magazine while kids are playing in mud.
4:00 - kids come back in, strip them down, send them up for baths,
4:30 - bring two kids down and let them play pretend restaurant in the playroom while I attempt to make dinner
5:00 - dinner served
5:30 - clean-up dinner, do dishes again,
6:15 - hubby calls from Atlanta to say hi to girls and tell me about the really long day I had, wants to know if I did anything interesting today. Not really.
7:00 - watch Underdog with the girls
8:30 - girls bedtime....spend next 2 hours yelling up the stairs for them to be quiet and go to sleep
10:30 - give up, go to bed
12:30 - still not asleep, keep hearing creaks outside of the house. Why does the house creak only when my hubby is out of town?

I'm tired.

Here is my typical day, everyday, any damn day:

6:30am - Wake up, wash and dress.
7:15am - Leave home to drive to work.
7:20am - Arrive at work.
7:20am - 5:00pm - Answer calls about people not knowing how to work the product our company sells.
5:00pm - Leave work to drive home.
5:07pm - Arrive at home.
5:07 - 6:00 - Straighten house from the last nights mess and put comfortable close on.
6:00pm - 7:30pm - Cook, eat, clean kitchen.
7:30pm - 10:30pm - Watch too much television, play on computer and read.
10:30pm - Sleep

Rinse and Repeat.

Buddy, you work 10 hours a day and don't eat lunch ?? Crazy. Sitting in traffic for an hour must be fun. For the first time all winter, I am blessing my great grand-parents for immigrating north instead of south !

Your schedule does encourage me to be more productive ! You see, I seem to think that I'm pretty busy. I sure don't work 10 solid hours a day.

Like many others have said, I'm stealing this as a blog post. I have my friends and family often asking me how I get so much done. And, like you, I don't quite know.

But, seriously - I need to get 7-8 hours of sleep. That's a setback. Funny thing, tho - I can't sleep more than 8 hours. Just cannot.

I have a secret for squeezing more into the morning. It's all psychological, but I have my alarm clock set for 20 minutes fast. So, it goes off at "5:15" (really, 4:55). I snooze once, so it *feels* much better getting up at "5:24" than at 5:04. And that's how I get myself, my husband, and my 2-year-old ready and out the door by 6:30 (real time).

Well, I don't have to get up as early as you do -- the kids usually sleep until about 7 -- but on my work nights I don't usually get home until 1 or 2 in the morning, so it all evens out.

I also don't have the fun commuting time and meeting time you get. I wish I could say I traded it all for play time with my kids, but housework gets in the way. Being a grown-up kind of sucks sometimes, doesn't it?

I did a post a while back on a "typical" day of a mom and three boys 4 and under. THAT was tiring. Cut and pasted below...

Now, I am back at work (as of this past Monday) and my schedule is similar to yours but I find it LESS tiring because I am not needed constantly!

up at 0500 to feed the babe
snuck back into bed until 0645 when eldest wondered when I was getting up - my reply..."when the sun does"
got middle child up at 0715 - very cranky middle child this day
made a tea whilst being pulled in many directions already ("turn the computer on", "what are we doing today", "I want a snack", "fill my sippy", "owwwwwwwwwww, Tanner blah blah....Trayden blah blah...)
ready to run already
opened eyes and obeyed my first set of commands for the day
checked to see if any nanny takers - none
played cars; played in the ball tent; read stories; watched Mighty Machines, aggggain; played tic-a-tic-a (chasing game) while sporting a policeman helmet chasing a half naked preschooler and a fireman garbed toddler around the house
made a special PD Day breakfast (bacon and eggs) - yummers
it is only 0900 by this time
instructed that it is time for boys to find an activity by themselves, 30 minutes, while I feed the babe and do a couple chores - the reaction given was that I had told them to go stand outside, naked, in the snow, for 2 hours...hmmm....:)
got babe up (lucky bum slept until 1000)
fed and changed babe
threw in a load of laundry
cleaned the kitty poop
checked to see if any nanny takers - none
ran dishwasher - didn't I just do it last night?
played with babe - correction - smothered babe and ate his cheeks
snuck in a few minutes of daily blog reading and email checking (literally on computer for 3 minutes and was spotted right away!)
racked tired brain (in bed last night, or should I this morning, at 0100 - I know, self punishment) to find something 'creative' for boys to do - completed a craft and then got out the messy, stick to your feet and all cream colored carpets in the house, Play-Doh
had lots of fun with the squishy, colorful gook (I really find Play-Doh salty, I mean, a good stress relief - feels like those stress balls
cleaned up floors, kitchen table, and boys of Play-Doh - middle child (no wonder) had blue teeth so a mid-morning teeth brushing was in order - babe was in awe of the stuff - kept getting the willies when he squeezed it...really cute!
cranked the tunes (dance channel on Rogers Digital ROCKS!) - got kids gross motor skills a bogeying by dancing and being silly - a norm in this house
fed them lunch
put tantrum boy down for a snooze (ahhhhhhhhh) @ 1245
put eldest in his "quiet" spot for 1 hour (who am I kidding?)
placed babe in Exersaucer in my "office" nook and checked to see if any nanny takers - none
did some computer stuff
eldest tapping on shoulder after 25 minutes (a record) wanting to know what I was doing
gave up - played some Wii with eldest; played with babe - his laughs are the bestest!
middle boy (now in a great mood!) got up from snooze - it is now 1435
*thought* of dinner
checked to see if any nanny takers - none (see where that is going, don't you!...NO WHERE!!!)
painted with boys - my boys love crafts - thank goodness!
changed over laundry
cut eldest and middle child's hair - use number 3 all over - clean and cute
mauled babe while other 2 played in shower to wash off the little tiny, won't go away for a week, buzzed off hairs
dressed boys from shower
played with farm toys with boys - babe LOVES the little figures - he holds them up close to his face and analyzes them like he is looking at the solar system through a telescope...very observant little guy!
spot cleaned downstairs bathroom - my gosh, how do mirrors get so gross like that?!?! - oh wait, 3 kids AND a hubby...nuff said...
broke up some more brotherly tiffs - eldest getting ornery now...middle child still in great mood but overly annoyed with his brother bothering him...
hear garage door open - jump inside for joy - hubby home - thank you good man 'upstairs' 1613
hubby made tacos - nice treat
ate tacos
ate desert
picked up taco and desert remnants from under kitchen table - enough to make another meal - but heck, the boys LOVE tacos...

I don't know that I *have* a typical day. I wake up anywhere from 5:30 AM to noon, depending on the day. Then I may or may not have class, or work in the library, or both. I usually drink an inexplicable amount of coffee (probably because I'm not on any certain sleep schedule, and am *always* tired-yet I refuse to wake up earlier than 11 if I don't *need* to) and eat food somewhere in there. I feed the dog and take him out at various points. Then I probably waste a lot of time online, do homework, and go to bed anywhere from midnight to 3 AM.

Maybe I need to typicalize my day.

05:15 Alarm goes off. Lovely Wife hits snooze before I can hear it and runs in the shower.
05:24 Alarm goes off. I hit snooze and vaguely register absence of Lovely Wife.
05:33 Alarm goes off. I listen to the news thinking that poor bastard on the radio got up hours before me. I sorta hear the shower in the distance.
05:55 Alarm goes off in my head. Lovely Wife has been in the shower for 40 minutes. I cry a little.
06:00 Drag myself downstairs and take a cold, cold, cold shower.
06:01 Shampoo, shave, soap up, rinse, and jump out of the shower.

This is very, very much like my days, although I get up slightly later, and I don't drink coffee. Of course, getting up later means I also get home slightly later than you do. Or a lot later, like I did tonight.

I am always amazed at how many emails can pile up while I'm in meetings.

I hate to sleep because there is so much else I'd like to do and have to find the time to do it when my little ladies are in bed, and I'm not at work. I totally wish I could read as fast as you though. I LOVE to read, but seem to be very very slow at it!

@ Zandria: I'll sleep when I'm dead. :-) Seriously, I exagerated a bit about this, but was sleeping only 2 hours a night for the longest time (12 years). Now I have kids, so I tend to sleep a little bit more these days (around 6 hours a night). There's the ocasional overtime spree at work or the "I need to gain one more level" in my videogames, but other than that I try to be a little more careful about my sleeping habits. ;-)

I can't get over how little sleep you get.

Here is my typical weekday as a stay at home Mom when I'm not working as a substitute:

1) Alarm goes off 5:45 am.
2) Get out of bed at 6:00 or 6:15 am.
3) 6:15 - 6:45 am: Shower, get dressed and ready for my day.
4) 6:50 am: Check e-mail.
5) Drive son to school @ 7:00 am.
6) Pickup coffee if I'm volunteering.
7) If not, hit gym for 2 hours--usually 3 times a week. Normally, I shower and change there.
8) Assorted errands, twice a week.
9) Read the paper while waiting for my son's school to let out.
10) Pickup son from school.
11) Unload the dishwasher, do assorted chores around the house.
12) Check e-mail and catchup on Tivo shows is usually in the late afternoon.
13) 6:30 pm: usually when I start cooking dinner.
14) 7:30 pm: Rest of my evening is parked on the couch and watching TV. I fold clothes during this time.
15) Off to bed usually at 10:30 - 11:00 pm.

Children go to "heaven". They must behave apprioriately, think correctly and be genuinely god-fearing. Their innocence is their superiority, reflected in the favor in which the gods hold them.
Religions teach that old people to go to heaven when they die. They don't. Old people are reincarnated. It's children who go to heaven.

This entire event was something special, and consistant with segmentation they lied to different disfavored based on their chances :::Saved or The Damned.
To The Damned I am an enemy of the Roman Empire, someone to be destroyed and used, and if the disfavored found that acceptable it worsened their lot, costed them hope and was a clue any recovery would be a very tough road to hoe.
