Bean Party

This weekend, Beth and I staged and somehow managed to pull of Mia's fourth birthday party. And, before you say it, I know - four? How the hell did that happen? Anyway, this year we decided to follow the same plan that proved successful last year. It was, mainly, this - whip up some food, pray for good weather, throw some toys in the backyard and turn the kids loose. And you know what? It worked.

No one got hurt. No one was rushed to the emergency room. There was no screaming (in pain, at least). There were no accidents. And the weather was spectacular. The bubble machines fired bubbles into the blue sky at full blast and the breeze kept the kids cool whilst they ran around in circles burning off their sugar highs in anticipation of the next cupcake.

At the end of the day, the birthday girl, her brother and her mom and dad were wiped out. "Mom," she said to Beth before falling soundly asleep in her bed adorned with new princess sheets, "that was the best day ever." We didn't want to argue with her. I mean, while it was good and all it didn't hold a candle to the day she was born, to the day she came into our world. A party seemed like the least we could do.

It looks like a fabulous time was had by all! Love the pictures (went to your Flickr and saw them all!).
It still blows my mind that Mia is four! What a beauty you and Beth made!

Great Pictures! Looks like everyone had a good time. The best rule for parties - KEEP IT SIMPLE! Easier - mentally and physically - on everyone involved.

Very sweet. 4 is a great age. We really loved 4, and 5 has been awesome too.

Hey, I celebrated my birthday this weekend, too. My hubby gathered 3 other couples (some of my best friends in the world), hired a limo for the night, went to some of the best restaurants and bars Houston has to offer, and basically laughed myself stupid until 4AM. It is the first party I have had in years and it was great.

I am glad to hear that Mia had such a great birthday.

I remember Tas's 4th birthay. It was one of the best parties ever. We actually held it at our house. Usually we alternate between my family and the in-laws. 4 was very kid focused. She got a swingset that took her uncle 8+ hours to put together. Great memories.

It really looks like you had a wonderful time.

Please wish Mia a Happy Birthday!

Happy 4th to Mia! We lucked out with an outdoor birthday party for Calvin first weekend of November in '08. Can't bank on sunny skies and 80 degree weather that time of year in VA. Trying to figure out what to do this year for birthday bash #2. Any suggestions?

Happy Birthday Mia! Looks like you avoided last year's cake catastrophe.

Ours turns 4 in October... it's approaching entirely too quickly.
