37

I've discovered something of a trend with weather and my birthday - it snows every odd year. In 2003? It snowed. Same for 2005 and 2007. And on Saturday despite the forecast for a light dusting, we managed to get a good solid six inches. Not an impressive measurement if you're a porn star, but pretty good for early December snowfall.

I grew up in Texas. It snowed once while I was living there, maybe an eighth of an inch. Schools were closed so all the kids could have the lamest snowball fights ever. So, I love snow. I like living in a place that gets snow. The novelty has yet to wear off. Snow on my birthday seems cool. Or did until it canceled Beth's plans for an evening out to celebrate my birthday. I was kinda bummed. But we had a great time anyway. And our evening out has been rescheduled for next weekend.

This weekend was obviously filled with snow-focused things. We made snowpeople, had snowball fights, and went sledding. A lot of hot chocolate was consumed, as was birthday came, stuffed peppers (my favorite meal which Beth makes every year for my birthday) and homemade chili. Lots of Wii was played - Beth and the kids gave me Wii Resort for my birthday - and as a result I kick some serious ass at table tennis. Instead of a night on the town, we caught the latest James Bond flick. And took care of Owen after he came down with a fever.

Thirty-seven is a whole lot less glamorous than 27. Not that we were jet-setting around the globe ten years ago but I've got different priorities and a whole hell of a lot more gray hair. But I'm okay with that. Because I've got two more wonderful kids than I had then, a wonderful life and I find that those different priorities suit me. Though I'm not pleased about being a year closer to forty. I'm happy to have that problem as opposed to the opposite, though.

Happy Birthday, Chris!!! I hope the makeup celebration is awesome! I love snow to bits, even though I grew up in Michigan and it's definitely not a novelty. We just got some today. No where near six inches though.

Also, I am in LOVE with that flower picture... I'm surprised you still had flowers though.

Happy belated birthday! Looks like you had a lot of fun this weekend. Despite living just outside Buffalo, we've only had one snowfall this year that amounted to anything, and it melted away in less than 24 hours. This is setting up to be a pretty lame winter so far!

Happy Birthday! I'm drooling over the thought of stuffed peppers, and loving the snow photos. I'm in Michigan and it's yet to snow. It always makes me laugh to hear stories of schools closing due to "snow". Apparently Houston got a snow day the other day and when I saw photos of the amounts of "snow"...well, I laughed. We very rarely have them up here, even the day we got 16 inches of snow.

Hope Owen is feeling better.

Happy Birthday! Really.
And it's very surprising that you're 37. But you make 37 cool, right? I'm guessing that people often assume you're younger than you are...

I have two kids right around the same age as yours, and I'm 30. But I don't look a day over 24. I think most people assume I'm the nanny. I hate that. And I hate having a baby face at work. I get NO respect. Do you ever have that feeling?

And the snow for your birthday is awesome.

Even though I'm a December baby too, I rarely had snow on my birthday (or Christmas) because I grew up in Oklahoma, where it snows a foot and a half on spring break. Except the December that I graduated from college. I had about six inches of snow for my birthday AND graduation that year. I was elated! Except for when I had to walk through all that snow to take a final.

Ah, 40 was nothing. It was 51 that freaked me out, but now that I am over the pneumonia, I think that 51 isn't so bad.
Sometimes staying home, with the ones you love, watching James Bond and hugging a feverish child is the best sort of birthday to have. All your ducks in a row, you know?
Hope Owen is better!
Happy Birthday!!

Welcome to your late 30s! When you're 36, it can go either way - mid to late. But now? It's official. Four more weeks for me!

I find 37 to be MORE glamourous, for exactly those same reasons. And yeah, it's snowed once since I've lived in your hometown.

Happy birthday, my friend!

I think the whole 40 year old thing is a marketing scam by Hallmark to sell more cards and grim reaper cake decorations. I'm two years on the other side of 40 - it's no big deal.

Happy Birthday. I love snow too.

It is 7 here in Colorado with 4 inches of snow. I'm getting ready to bundle up to take the dog for a walk and get a little sunshine for today.

Hope Owen just has a little bug that quickly goes away. I'm sure he'd love to get out and play in the snow some more.

I'm a believer that life gets better the older we get. Enjoying my 40s.

It's 50 degrees and rainy in Arizona and we're all freezing. We know who the tourist are because they're the only ones wearing shorts in December.

Snow on your birthday must be a good thing. It sounds like you had a great day. Happy Birthday!

It's so weird being 3 years away from 40. I'm so glad my husband is already 40, he's paving the way for me.
