Need, 2009

You guys rock. I'm not just saying that. I have a lot of evidence. Among it, the holiday donation you helped me make last year. Though some simple commenting and a little word-of-mouth (or keyboard), we raised nearly $500 for Fisher House. If you're not in the know about Fisher House, you should be. The organization houses military families close to the hospitals and recovery centers in which their battle-wounded loved ones are treated. And we raised nearly $500 for them in 24 hours. See what I mean? You rock.

Over the last year some things have changed a great deal - we have a new administration, the economy tanked more than we thought possible, and the jobless rates soared. But some things didn't change at all, like the two ongoing wars each with casualties. And each of those casualties have names and faces and people who love them. So we're doing it again.

For each comment I get on this entry in the next 24 hours, I'll donate 35 cents to Fisher House. Don't forget - anonymous and repeat comments won't count. If you guys totally blow up my comment box, well, I've got a cap in mind for the donation. I do, after all, have a wife, two kids, and a car that's surely going to implode over the next year. So comment recklessly and tell your friends to do the same.

Update: Brooke has offered to match my donation (as she did last year because she totally rocks). So, basically, each comment you make snags $0.75. As a result, you should tell all your friends and comment with wild abandon. So, lets see it!

Update Part Two: Son of Update. ClumberKim has added $0.25 to each comment bringing our grand total (if I'm doing my math right) to $0.95 a comment. That's almost a buck a comment!

Posted by: js at December 16, 2009 8:27 AM

Nicely done Chris!

And since I have nothing to give other than knowledge, let me lay some on you:
1. Looking to round out the stocking stuffers for Mia? Try the dollar store office supply section. Protractor, calculator, and drawing templates make for awesome gifts when you are little and that sort of stuff seems like alien tech from above.
2. Not sure where you stand on the whole "violence in your cartoons" camp ( or Beth ), but if you don't mind some sword play I highly recommend Samurai Jack for the wee ones. Great story telling and great moral lessons ( your kids could grow up to be scruffy crime fighters, or samurai...you decide! ;) )
3. If where you work has one of those "instant hot" spigots ( may be on the sink or attached to a coffee machine ), you've got yourself a kitchen in a spigot; great for making oatmeal and Ramen.
4. To help secure your role as super dad, take 4 quarters, tape them together, and keep them in your jacket ( or two quarters and in your wallet twice over ). Next time you are out and about and Mia and Owen want something out of those candy machines, you're ready with the quarters ( assuming they've been good and what they want isn't Chinese toxic waste in a tube ).

Ok, now I feel that I earned my .35 cents. Thanks for doing this dude. You'll never know all the good that you are putting out into the world, but I hope that you feel it's echo.

So this is a great idea. :) We have had a major recent blow to our family with my husband's recent diagnosis of congestive heart failure at the age of 41. Thanks to our amazing church family, we were given a HUGE donation for Christmas and living expenses as he is off work without pay.

Therefore, anything I can do to help out anyone else I am all for. Bless you for helping these families in their time of need. Certainly someone will return the favor to you shall you ever need it.

Merry Christmas and Holiday Blessings to you and your family!

~Wendy

You rock for doing this. Also wondered (maybe someone else brought it up but there's already 88 comments) but maybe setting up a paypal account so that anyone who comments could also donate 35 cents? I think most of us could afford that and it could double the donation.

Posted by: rai at December 16, 2009 11:29 AM

But...what am I going to say? There's so much pressure to say something smart. Or meaningful. I'm not feeling smart or meaningful. Or chatty. So how am I supposed to comment without anything to say?

Oh.
