The Weeklies #123

The Weekly Beer. Smuttynose IPA

The Weekly Non-Alcoholic Beverage. Vitamin Water Connected

The Weekly Time Waster. Factory Balls 3

The Weekly Read. The Serialist is David Gordon's first novel. It's one of the more unusual, striking books I've read in a very long time. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what it is - it's part thriller, part mystery, and part meditation on literature and writing. I know it sounds like an odd combination and it really was. But it was amazingly refreshing and my first two thoughts upon turning the final page were damn, its over and wow. So, while I can't really tell you what The Serialist was, I can certainly tell you it was fantastic and very worthwhile.

The Weekly Music. A few weeks ago, I pointed you to OK Go's This Too Shall Pass marching band video. I can't believe that they managed to top it but they did. Check out OK Go's latest This Too Shall Pass video and prepare to be amazed. I'll admit it - I don't think it's the greatest song in the world but I'd buy the album on the strength of this video and the sense of humor the band shows alone.

The Weekly Opposite of that Last Video. This is stupidly awesome.

The Weekly Most Awesomely Pointless Site. Shatner's Toupee, an exhaustive study of William Shatner's hair.

The Weekly Schadenfreude. Lindsay Lohan is suing E-Trade over their "milkaholic" baby commercial. See, the baby in question - the one referred to in the ad as a "milkaholic" is named Lindsay. And Lindsay contents that she is on par with Prince, Madonna and Cher in the single-name recognition department and, as a result, demands compensation. And I agree. I say if she's also willing to acknowledge that her name is also synonymous with no-talent hack, hot mess and skank, she should be fairly compensated.

The Weekly Question From Mia*. What color is your best tiara and how long is your hair?

* Seriously, I've been asking her what questions she'd like to ask you guys and this is what she's coming up with.

Posted by Chris at March 12, 2010 6:58 AM

Tell Mia that my hair curls down to my shoulders and my Tiara is the color of diamonds!

Posted by: Maribeth at March 12, 2010 7:34 AM

My tiara is silver and sparkly, and my hair is down to my shoulders.

Posted by: Alison at March 12, 2010 7:40 AM

My hair is sort of short, almost to my shoulders but shaggy. My best Tiara is my silver one with emeralds because I think I look better in silver and blue eyed people should always have green near by to make the blue look bluer.

Posted by: NancyJ at March 12, 2010 7:44 AM

My hair is a little past my shoulders and although I don't have a tiara, I do have two beautiful crystal hair clips that are shaped like flowers. They are white with bright green leaves. They make me feel very pretty.

Posted by: Ashley K at March 12, 2010 8:02 AM

I have a yellow tiara (and I can send her a photo if she likes) and my hair is at my shoulders. You can also tell her that my lovely daughter has a red tiara. As well my best friends have a blue, green and purple tiara. We LOVE the tiaras around here.

Posted by: daisy at March 12, 2010 8:32 AM

That's it. I say we submit photos. Readers, wearing their tiaras, for mia. And then a picture of you in mia's best tiara. Hahaha. Oh it's gold!

Posted by: sara at March 12, 2010 8:51 AM

My hair is a bit more than shoulder length. Sadly, I have no tiara. Now I'm thinking I may have to fix that.

Posted by: Fraulein N at March 12, 2010 9:12 AM

love that OK Go video. thanks for the recommendation! will have to go spend more money on iTunes now...

and for mia-- my hair is short and kind of mohawk-y with pink in it. and my best tiara is sparkly!

Posted by: bri at March 12, 2010 9:32 AM

My tiara is silver with diamonds and my hair is cut to my chin.

Posted by: k8 at March 12, 2010 9:34 AM

My tiara is encrusted with emeralds and diamonds (faux, of course), and is very dainty. My hair used to be down to my waist, but last spring I donated 12.5" to Locks of Love, and over the rest of 2009, slowly went from below shoulder to short.

Posted by: coolchick at March 12, 2010 10:06 AM

I only have one tiara (shocking, I'm sure) and it is silver. My hair is pretty long...past my shoulders but not nearly as long as Mia's.

Posted by: Teresa at March 12, 2010 10:11 AM

I don't have a tiara, but if I did, I'd want it to be silver and blue and sparkly. Now that I think about it, why don't I have a tiara?

My hair is curly and shoulder length and in need of a trim.

Posted by: bad penguin at March 12, 2010 10:16 AM

That IS a stupidly awesome video. And I LOL'd at it, for real.

Posted by: Claire at March 12, 2010 10:17 AM

Well, please tell Mia that my best tiara is gold... and my hair is down to my waist. My son, Squink, has a tiara and his best one is silver... his hair, however, is short.

Posted by: blair at March 12, 2010 10:31 AM

My hair is a little past my shoulders and I would like to go out and get a platinum diamond and ruby tiara because I am sad that I don't have one and every girl should.
But I have been fortunate enough to play with my nieces pink sparkly tiara.

Posted by: Diane at March 12, 2010 10:34 AM

Does a purple headband count as a tiara?

My hair right now is overdue for a cut. I usually wear it as short as possible without shaving my head. Somehow it went from very blond to very white without my noticing until one of my kids was kind enough to point it out.

If you saw any of the Academy Awards, my hair is about the length of the English woman who was nominated for An Education. Can't remember her name but I'd love to look like she does.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Posted by: Ann Elizabeth Adams at March 12, 2010 10:46 AM

Oooh, Mia. I only have one tiara. It is silver and sparkly. And my hair is longish. Maybe six inches under my shoulders?

Mia questions make me smile. The real question here though, is what color is Mia's best tiara?

Posted by: caleal at March 12, 2010 10:49 AM

Mia, my favorite tiara was green, but my daughter broke it by accident! My hair is just below my shoulders and growing! ;-)

Chris, you turned me on to Ok Go...saw that video, and granted, it isn't the best song ever, but man, you have to admit, those guys have a great imagination! I purchased their latest and I am not disappointed.

Happy Weekend!

Posted by: cyndy at March 12, 2010 11:56 AM

Uh, well, the closest thing I have to a tiara is my SF Giants cap, so it's black and orange?

My hair hangs almost down to the top of my pants.

Posted by: Brooke at March 12, 2010 12:05 PM

That OK Go video is amazing. Someone else linked to it last week and I fell in love. Tell Mia my hair used to be down to the middle of my back and then one day I chopped it so short that I can no longer do a pony tail. And my tiara (stolen from my daughter) is silver glitter and says "Princess" in blue glitter. Also? I totally mowed the lawn in it one day because I almost ran it over with the mower and decided the safe spot was on my head. I wish I could embed a photo for you!

Posted by: js at March 12, 2010 12:07 PM

That was a super cool video; catchy tune; I doubt one continous take; that would have to be an awfully large warehouse and the steady cam operator could not get around that fast! Fun! I can always count on you for good books and fun time wasters!

Posted by: Rae at March 12, 2010 12:11 PM

I was actually recently given a tiara ('BOUT DAMN TIME, as my twitter bio is "princess of almost everything") - it's sparkly silver. My daughters have matching tiaras but theirs are sparkly pink. My hair is a smidge shorter than shoulder length.

Posted by: Sarah at March 12, 2010 12:31 PM

I have a silver tiara and my hair is down to the middle of my back. Here's a picture of said tiara and my long hair.

Posted by: oakley at March 12, 2010 12:50 PM

Re OK GO: my cat thought that video was awesome.

Posted by: Laura at March 12, 2010 2:07 PM

My hair is blonde and just about touches my shoulders. I only have one tiara that I wore on my wedding day and it's silver with tiny clear beads. Here it is, my hair was a bit longer then:

Posted by: Katherine at March 12, 2010 2:38 PM

My old tiara was silver, but it got lost when I moved. I have to get myself a new one.

My hair stops about eight inches past my shoulders.

Posted by: Kat at March 12, 2010 3:49 PM

If I "had" a tiara I would want it to be Hot pink with sequins and since I have short hair, I would want long blonde hair. lol

Tell Mia, excellant question.

Have a rockin relaxing weekend!

Posted by: soccermom at March 12, 2010 4:00 PM

Unfortunately, my 11 year old daughter stole all my tiara's years ago, so I am unable to answer part one of the question.

My hair is currently just past my shoulders. I haven't decided if I will get it cut short or let it grow out again. What does Mia think I should do?

Posted by: Kris H. at March 12, 2010 4:08 PM

Bean... my best tiara is sparkly and my hair is a little bit longer than my shoulders :)

Posted by: stinkerbell at March 12, 2010 5:33 PM

Tell Mia that my tiara on my wedding day was gold with three hearts outlined in "diamonds". My dad bought in Mexico for me:-)

My hair is past my shoulders.

Posted by: Dee at March 12, 2010 8:06 PM

what do you know, no dudes have commented on today's post?

i have no tiara, unfortunately, and my hair is dark brown and just past my shoulders!

Posted by: kati at March 12, 2010 8:35 PM

Here is a photo for Mia of my hair is shorter now

It is "silver" with 3 hearts decked out in "diamonds" and "pearls". I also included a photo in front of my "castle" because I thought Princess Mia would like that.

My hair is still blonde but barely shoulder-length at this point.

Posted by: Krush at March 12, 2010 9:06 PM

My hair is blonde and past my shoulders, but shorter than yours, Mia. I do not have a tiara right now, and so I should probably fix that soon! I think I would like one that is silver with lots of sparkles.

Posted by: Heather at March 12, 2010 10:57 PM

My best tiara is definitely purple.

My hair is almost all the way down my back right now. Time to get it cut!

Posted by: Poppy at March 13, 2010 11:02 PM

Sadly no tiara, but my hair is long - it is about half way down my back.

Posted by: Delia at March 15, 2010 2:49 AM

I love it that she wonders about the BEST tiara. ('cause I've got SO many of the pesky things lying around!!) My tiara is silver with lots of jewels. But I've always wanted a bright red one.
My hair used to be long enough to tuck into my pants, but that was WAY back in grade school. Now it's much shorter and hangs just below my shoulders. Sometimes I wish I still had super long hair, but most times, I like not spending all my money on shampoo.

Posted by: Kim at March 15, 2010 8:56 AM

I'm late on this, but my best tiara is gold with pink diamonds (rhinestones, really, but for her they can be diamonds!) and my hair is brown and down to my shoulder blades.

No shit, I really do have a tiara like that and I wore that shit proudly at Disney World last weekend!

That's understandable that cash makes us autonomous. But how to act when one has no money? The only one way is to try to get the personal loans or credit loan.

All people deserve good life and loans or just financial loan will make it much better. Just because freedom relies on money.

if you want to buy real estate, you will have to receive the personal loans. Moreover, my brother always utilizes a college loan, which seems to be really useful.
