I'm Not Sure My Insurance Covers This

It seems that the cicada outbreak around here has sparked a Godzilla-like panic. Should your vehicle actually suffer such a fate, I'd love to hear about it.

*thinking* well I guess if we were underground for seventeen years and came out and people were trying to scoop us up to eat us (which is gross to begin with) we'd retaliate too LOL. Think of how many false police reports will be filed in the next few weeks of people thinking their cars have been stolen when infact they have just been eaten instead. LOL.

Now THAT needs to be on a T-Shirt. HA!

I don't think we have cicada's in Canada..or at least in this part of canada. So I am feeling a little left out of all this bug invasion stuff.
But i gotta tell you, the stories I've been reading TOTALLY Creep me out! If they can eat a car imagine what they could do to your CAT!

OK, I still stand firm ont eh fact that even though they are UGHLY NASTY creatures, I do miss their sound. It's sooooo "summertime." I guess it takes leaving the country to miss somehting like cicadas LOL

it was horrible, just horrible...all that was left when the chewing stopped was a little puddle of antifreeze and a mangled carburetor...i'll never see anything more terrible as long as i live. damn you cicadas!!

...but seriously, where is that sign? i want to get a picture of it. (oh, and at first i thought it said "cicadas eat carbs" and i figured that would freak out the atkins set.)

Haha! Just another example of the measures companies will go to with advertising. If you can't bring customers in by other means, might as well strike fear into their hearts. :)

LOL! We have a Mormon Cricket problem around here..but I don't think they eat cars.

I have a friend whose husband was working in DC recently. He said the cicadas were so bad that they had to leave their car windows up because they were flying into the windows and dying inside the car.

We went to the Baltimore Zoo on Saturday afternoon for their "Brew at the Zoo" event. Drunks + flying red-eyed bugs = mass hysteria. It seriously would have rivaled any animal escape situation.

Boyfriend works is a regional sales manager for a filter company that has a filter made specifically for cicada abatement. Because it is time for full on cicada gross out-ness, he has a picture of a BIG effing cicada on his office wall. Not 8x10, mind you. BIG! Like as big as me kind of big. And I am a fairly tall chick! I have to suppress the urge to ask if that would be his mom or something.

I am so sick of these nasty bugs - hopefully they are on their way out.

I'd like to see photographic evidence.

I'm happy to know hand wax solves such a devastating problem.

Oh and what the hell is a cicada?

I thought it said "cicadas eat carbs" and I realized just how much Atkins and South Beach have invaded my conscious. Judy!

I've been hearing constantly about them on TV and the like, and I have no idea what the hell they are.

One thing I heard is that they're high in protien. Oh puke.

I keep getting emails from back east with all these photos of bugs crawling all over the place...and every time I get one, I do the Happy Dance of We Ain't Got No Cicadas In These Parts.

I hate bugs.

Love the sign. Although I question the validity of the content.

*stands slowly and grimaces*

My name is HR Lady and my minivan was eaten by the Cicadas. I went to bed one night with my Nissan Quest parked in the drive. The next morning I awoke to find nothing left but the tires and gaskets apparently they loathe rubber.

I'm SO glad to see someone else got a picture of that sign! I saw it as I was driving into Tysons Corner about a week ago and nearly hit the Lexus in front of me because I was laughing so hard. I kept thinking, 'Oh if only I had my camera!' Now I think someone should edit a picture of a giant cicada eating a car and send it to whoever made that sign. Believe me, I am so tempted.

How is a WAX JOB supposed to protect your car from cicadas? I mean, if they're eating cars, I'm thinking a little wax isn't really going to slow them down, you know?

Posted by: Dawnie at June 2, 2004 09:22 AM

From what I've read on many blogs so far (luckely we don't have bugs like that here :)) cicadas are far to busy having sex in public to eat cars.
