Focus? What's That?

A few random thoughts for Friday...since I'm fairly random myself today...

Meeting of the Crazies. I have a two hour meeting (yes, I said two hours) with Crazy Client and my least favorite person to work with (I'll refrain from using my nickname for her - its not polite). This? Is not something I'm looking forward to. At all.

I Potty The Fool. The installation of the toilet is complete. Pictures have been taken. I'll post this weekend.

Checkpoint. I'm a fan of author Nicholson Baker so I picked up his latest, Checkpoint, to see what all the fuss was about. Not his best book but definitely worth checking out. The Republicans among you will most likely not appreciate it.

Long Jump, Or Many Short Ones. TiVo was made for the Olympics. I'm serious. Not that I'm not patient (but really, I'm not) but being able to fast forward through all the crap is great. The Chevy ad you've seen 3,402 times? Blip blip. Gone. The sappy human interest piece about the runner sprinting in memory of his deceased pet parrot? Blip blip. Gone. The Paul "No Testicles" Hamm interviews (have you heard that guy talk?)? Blip blip. Gone.

One of Our Own. I'm saddened by Dooce's news. Cross your fingers everyone. Is it me or has it been a hard summer for a lot of people?

Have a fantastic Friday everyone!

I concur - this summer has been really, really, really, *really* sucky for a lot of people. Too bad we can't blame El Nino.

Posted by: Heather at August 27, 2004 09:11 AM

Seems to me it's been a rough summer for a lot of people, let's hope winter is kind to us all this year (I say this from snowbelt central it's not really likely to be so). I don't know Dooce so I am unfamiliar with her trials but after checking in on thoughts and prayers are certainly with her.

TiVo i don't have it but you all say such wonderful things about it I have that imprinted on my brain! If I had tivo I would have fast forwarded through Bjork's song during the opening ceremony...sorry but I would have.

Have a happy Friday, and good luck with your meeting!

Yeah, the dooce news hit me hard too. It made me consider it for myself. What is up with bloggers and depression???

Posted by: Pixie at August 27, 2004 09:35 AM

Pixie asks a good question -- I don't think it's necessarily that bloggers are depressed moreso than anyone else. I just think we're the only ones with courage, and a forum, to tell the world (although many of us do it anonymously, so it's not THAT courageous in the end... but you get my drift.)

My comment was, Paul "No Testicles" Hamm? Haha! Poor kid was probably forced to amputate them so he'd look better in his "outfit". Tee hee.

TiVo~ My husband cannot STAND to watch "real" tv anymore because of the TiVo. And if by some strange happening, we are watching "real" tv, during the commercials the poor man STILL reaches for his TiVo remote and tries to fast forward. =)

Dooce~ Yep, Dooce's news hit me hard. My thoughts and prayers are with her, Jon, and Leta.

Posted by: Lauren at August 27, 2004 09:58 AM

It does seem like bloggers got hit hard this summer (I don't know how last summer was). Can we blame global warming? I don't know, it just seems a lot of us are, shall we say, out of sorts.

I'm hoping for a healthy and happy fall.

Anything has to be better than this past summer..bad karma all over. Wishing for happy and healthy stuff soon!

Posted by: debby at August 27, 2004 10:06 AM

this is my first time commenting on your blog. (may i just say that i've enjoyed reading ever since i discovered it a few weeks ago) and it's so weird, because your comment about dooce...i discovered her blog through other people and totally separate from when i discovered your blog. it's either a coincedence or she's a very popular blogger?

Posted by: Priscilla at August 27, 2004 10:15 AM

i feel weird commenting after Priscilla, since that is my mom's name! ;) yes, Paul Hamm must have no testicles whatsoever. Has anyone run a drug test on this dude? I could say a lot more, but I won't be snarky. (he is awesome, though.)

much love going out to Heather, Jon, and Leta. It has been a rough summer, so come on, autumn - we need you!

Posted by: samantha at August 27, 2004 10:53 AM

Priscially, she's a very popular blogger and with very good reason. I'm sure my good wishes for her good health joins tons of others.

Hamm: I was taken aback by his voice, but since I first heard him speak, I've noticed that a lot of the male athletes have high voices. I don't know if you can draw anything from that, but I'm finding it curious.

Two hour meetings are never fun...ick.
Re: the toilet. Hope you were the life of the potty.
I too hope Dooce is ok...
Paul "No Testicles" Hamm - hee
Wish I had Tivo...*sigh*

Posted by: Sue at August 27, 2004 11:28 AM

I heard about Dooce's trials through Amalah. My heart goes out to both of them. I don't know what it is about this summer.

As for Paul "No Testicles" Hamm (hee): as patricia pointed out, a lot of the male gymnasts have high voices. Actually, a lot of the female gymnasts do too. I'm thinking it has something to do with stunted growth.

Posted by: Fraulein N at August 27, 2004 11:32 AM

Yes. Funfun! I can't wait to see how the toilet thing turns out!

The first time I heard an interview with Hamm, I could *swear* he was on helium. I like your version better, though. =D

Want to buy me a TiVo? 0=)

I feel it is perfectly acceptable to blame our mental health on El Nino, or Global Warming, or anything else we feel like blaming it on. I mean, who's going to stop us!?!? We're nuts!

I'm KIDDING. Sort of.

Posted by: Broad at August 27, 2004 11:50 AM

Whenever we are not in control of the TiVo remote at home, we make the 'bedoop, bedoop' sound to get whoever does to fast forward. It works there, but I have caught myself doing it with real people and not non-testicled gymnasts.

Posted by: bmh at August 27, 2004 11:57 AM

Personally, I blame "Fucking Bush!" for my poor mental health.

Posted by: supine at August 27, 2004 12:24 PM

I believe that Bush is totally to blame for what is going on with poor Dooce these days. Nah, I was so sorry for her and Leta and Jon when I read their posts. The summer had been a tough one. Fucking Bush.

Can't wait to see your toilet pictures. Weird sentence, wasn't that?

"I Potty The Fool"

*picks herself up off the floor and wipes tears from eyes*

Posted by: Sawni at August 27, 2004 01:26 PM

That's pretty sad news about Dooce.

You've not been blipping the cute Dutch hockey team now have you?? ;)

Posted by: Sweety at August 27, 2004 02:40 PM

I went over and read Dooce's comments. I wish all the best. This should be such a happy time. I hope everything works out.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll check in.

Ahhhhh really nice to watch the olympics here where they play it 24 hours a day on a state owned channel that doesn't show commercials. Also? I think only American TV does those sappy human interest things. They don't show ANYTHING like that here and I'm all the more grateful for it.

It's the year of the monkey in Asian cultures.
The monkey is mischevious and menacing, he makes weird things happen.

It's the monkey year
things are going very wrong
just four months to go
