Audioblog: Freak Magnet

Music and scary women with fanny packs. Yes, I'm a freak magnet.

Posted by Chris at September 10, 2004 05:39 PM

It must be obvious you love music if scary women with fanny packs chase you around a music store... lol

Put on your running shoes hon.. ;-)

Wooohooo audioblog! I just heard back from Mr. Eric at audioblog and yes they tested on Drupal, but he has no other feedback he can give me. So...must test those waters myself this weekend. :)

Posted by: groovebunny at September 10, 2004 05:45 PM

oh i LUHVE your audioblogs entries. That was a great and very scary story. I can't believe she chased you around the whole store - with a fanny pack on, nonetheless. God bless her. Probably some psycholady off her meds who listens to The Wall over and over again.

and who's Jeff Beck?

Posted by: samantha at September 10, 2004 05:45 PM

LMAO! I posted before I listened. Was she following you around the store because perhaps you were wearing a fanny pack yourself??? Sorry I had to ask that! And I have to say, you do the Scarey Woman with Fanny Pack impersonation very well! Impressive .:)

Posted by: groovebunny at September 10, 2004 05:50 PM

I'm kinda surprised she didn't launch into "groupie sex" stories with you. I mean, after all, it IS the ultimate pick-up line.

Posted by: Broad at September 10, 2004 05:51 PM

first of all, this was especially hilarious because i had a "why people with fanny packs are scary" conversation just a few days ago.

second of all, the locket was the clincher. my. lord.

third of all, audioblog rocks! i love hearing peoples' voices, it's one of those uber-voyeuristic pleasures. i would do audioblog myself (because most of my stories, i've found, play better when heard), but i'm afraid of revealing the fact that i really sound like a valley girl.

This wasn't perchance the Best Buy over by the mall, was it? If so, then I'm really not surprised. I can't go in there without getting chased by weirdo people either. Although, typically, in my case it's the overly hormonal teenage male employees who follow me incessantly as if sure I'd need some kind of help from them, even it if wasn't confined to the realms of helping me find a specific item in the store. It got so bad once I actually ran out of the store and later filed complaints with the store manager, but that's another story. :) My advice, do what I do, and avoid that Best Buy like the plague.

Mmmm. Chicks with fanny packs. Did she have a nice belly that overlapped the pack? Mmmm. Chicks with big bellies that hide their fanny packs. Did she look like Mimi on the Drew Carey Show? Mmmm. Mimi with a fanny pack. Now that's hot.

Seriously? When I see ANYONE with a fanny pack? I unfortunately turn into Mr. Fanny Packless Asshole and start dropping F bombs attached to remarks that sound like Queer-Eye one-liners. . .

Posted by: Colby at September 10, 2004 08:01 PM

LMAO Colby!!! I gotta say Mr. Cactus, an added bonus to getting to visit a wonderful blog like yours is the responses from your readers. :)

Posted by: groovebunny at September 10, 2004 08:08 PM

the audioblog thing didnt show up on my computer. word.

Posted by: Maureen at September 10, 2004 08:29 PM

you so totally sound the way i'd thought you'd sound. how cool.

fanny pack people scare me. the only thing that scares me more... people who give fanny packs as gifts!

Posted by: monique at September 10, 2004 10:10 PM

Ok I SWEAR to you IT WAS NOT ME!!! I am NO where near DC! I swear! And the other thing I DO NOT EVER wear scary fanny paks! Didn't they go out with the 80s? I thought you might be worried since I am such a Bowie Freak! But you know the locket whould have had BOWIE in it! : ) Love your voice! Can I begin to stalk you now? I can talk to you about Bowie! *grin*

Even scarier are men with fanny packs. I too am approached by the "odd ones" for some reason they always ask me questions, like where things are at in the market, I'm like what? do I look like the stocker? It must be this SHOPPING BASKET that gave me away. Or maybe we give out odd people pheromones. Why couldn't it be for getting obscenely rich males pheromones? Course in your case that'd be sort of funny, not to mention a great audio blog entry.

You have a very pleasant story telling voice, you sort of sound like Deke McClelland, I like his voice as well, very easy on the ears. I should know, I've been through all four hundred and seventy thousand hours of his Photoshop CS and Illustrator DVD tutorials.

I can't see/access the audioblog entry either :(

Posted by: Amber at September 11, 2004 08:40 AM

Man, the only way that could've been scarier would be if she said, "I've photographed Jeff Beck several times and THAT'S why he's tied up in my basement."

I hope you made sure she didn't follow your car.

oh my word. she sounds like an absolute nut job! i, too, seem to attract the weird ones. i want to get away so badly, yet i can't make myself be mean and rude and just ditch them. i had a similar experience in Wal-Mart one time. no fanny pack was involved... but i DID get the impression that the guy who wouldn't leave me alone really wanted to keep my picture in a locket around his neck if he could. *shudder* how do some people get so.... weird??

btw... i love the audioblog! for some reason you sound different than what i imagined. i might have to try that myself. then everyone can hear just how much i sound like a 16 year old. =)

Posted by: Judy at September 11, 2004 11:28 AM

Oh my gosh! I am rolling on the floor! You are hilarious AND you sound exactly like I imagined!

I tend to draw in scary types as well. I make the mistake of making eye contact and then BOOM! Freaks R Us. It's always a freaky type, never a hot young guy or even someone remotely interesting! Why is that?

More audioblogs, please!

Posted by: doulazanie at September 11, 2004 12:56 PM

Wow, I must say, something like that has never happened to me in a store. :) Maybe you're not a freak magnet but just a people magnet... nicer way to think of it I guess.

Posted by: Carla at September 11, 2004 01:29 PM

My husband just walked in and asked what I was laughing about. That was very funny. Always glad to meet fellow freak magnets.

Posted by: Kelley at September 11, 2004 11:15 PM

Stop lying.
Not only do you LOVE fanny pack adorned women who wear celebrity lockets... but you LOVE Jeff Beck because anyone who tries that hard to sound like Pink Floyd fronted by Rod Stewart doesn't suck at all!!!!! *COUGH*bullshit*COUGH*

Posted by: RockStar Mommy at September 12, 2004 02:56 PM

hahah. i'd love to photograph musicians. she stole my dream job! but other than that, the weird fannypacklady is scary. but it's a funny story. this is why i bring my cd player/headphones and/or a book with me everywhere i go. people don't bother me then. it does make cd shopping a little difficult if you're reading a book though. creeepy.

Posted by: Manda at September 13, 2004 12:08 AM

Love the audioblog! Sorry you're a freak magnet! You must give off a nicey vibe.

Posted by: Sue at September 13, 2004 10:51 AM

I'm not sure what to say about that.

Except stay away from Disney World. Tons and tons of freaky people in fanny packs there.

Also, I didn't realize people still wore fanny packs in non-tourist settings. Touristy fanny packs? Lame, a crime against fashion, but somewhat excuseable. (Somewhat. Not fully. Just somewhat.)

Fanny packs as everyday wear? No. Just... no.
