You Oughta Be In Pictures

Something occurred to me in France last year...and again in NYC this week. Its kind of a creepy thought. How many times have you been caught in someone else's picture? How many strangers' photo albums are you in? How many videotapes are you on?

Sure, its a creepy thought but it could be sort of cool as well. Think of all the places you are at once. Maybe a Russian spy caught you in a frame while staking out a local night-spot for politicians. Maybe you walked through the establishing shot used for a sitcom. Maybe a photographer caught you in profile while taking a picture of a landmark. Maybe that picture has sold hundreds of copies. Maybe your image, or part of it, is hanging in thousands of living rooms, pasted on the front of greeting cards and used as "November" in a calendar of favorite destinations.

So when people ask you where you are, maybe its okay if you say you don't really know.

I've thought about this many times as well. But it bothers me 'cause since I didn't know about most of the shots I probably look like an idiot 'cause I'm vain like that :P So I try not to think about it.

hmmm, let's see, I was in a crowd scene in Huck Finn with Johnny Whitaker - if you see a little kid with a yellow bonnet, that's me. And my mom and dad had their blue car in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.

I was with friends in London, and 2 Asian tourists asked my friends if they could hold my friends' baby in a picture. So now my friends' baby is in a random Asian woman's photo album.

So, yeah, I'm in Wonderboys (near the end, and it's not worth it) because I was going to be late for class and figured the movie was going to tank anyway.

Wow, I was right.

LOL. That thought just occurred to me last Sunday as I was editing some photos I took at this year's La Strada festival in our Little Italy. In one shot I have a guy who saw I was taking the shot so he posed and smiled. Then he nodded after I clicked several shots. Then in another shot I captured two old band mates I haven't seen in 3 years! It was strange looking at the shot and saying...OMG that's so and so! Also, when I used to sing, people would come up to the stage and take shots or ask me to take a shot with them all the time. Usually they were tourists. But the weirdest one I found I was in was taken by the parents of a friend's friend in Scotland who came to vacation in San Diego one summer. The parents were raving about this band they saw and sent him some pictures. In the pictures it turned to be me on stage with my boys! Very strange coincidence! So right now, I know there are pictures of me in Edinburgh. lol

Hmm spelling correction for previous comment - plague. I'M SO SORRY!

LOL
You know, it's funny, I'd thought about that while looking through yer pics from the trip. What about the strangers in the picture. Wouldn't be funny once to, after you shot the pic, approach the people who are inadvertantly in it and ask them about them? Where are you from? What's your favorite food? LOL

After living 2 years a block away from "Colonial" Williamsburg I am pretty sure I am in a lot of pictures. Last year I decided to have fun with the tourists and whenever I would see someone taking a picture that I was pretty sure I would be in ... (as an innocent bystander of course) I would smile and wave. No sense in not looking good just because it isn't a picture FOR my family and friends. = )

Hmmm I had never thought about that until now, kinda creeps me out.

One time I asked a couple to take a photo of me and my friends and then I took a photo of them because they were so nice! Weirdo that I am! So I have a random shot of them!

I do often wonder tho how many Concert shots I am in, since I lived at concerts when I was a teenager...and some of them have been done live! Only how would they have caught me? Shudder to think of it! *grin*

I'm constantly ducking out of photos; after all, I report the news, not MAKE it. Still, I've ended up on the news more times than I care to think about. But I was REALLY excited when my CAR ended up on the news, though. THAT was awesome. Me? Not so much.

Type_a & I (and other friends from years past) used to go to Disney & Universal all the time on various hallucinogenics, and one of our favorite pasttimes was to run, jump, yell, and wave in front of tourists' video cameras. I always thought it was fabulous that I would be forever on their "vacation memories" tape....."yes, and there's the girl who just HAD to jump in the picture...I think her and all of her friends were on something..."

My picture has been in post offices across the country, and they didn't ask my permission!

We went to Disney World when I was a kid, and in a couple of shots there's this little boy diligently picking his nose. We always make sure to point him out when we go through the album. Heh.
