For My Next Trick...

I probably shouldn't be typing this. I mean, I'll likely sprain a finger or two. Or, the chair could collapse and leave me sprawled on the floor. Or I'll spill the big cup of coffee in my lap. Or something. You see, I seem to be suffering from a condition known as Sympathy Pregnancy Clumsiness (SPC). It started yesterday when I closed my head in my car door. Yes, my head. In my car door. I have a bump the size of a small, third world autocracy to prove it. Then, in a rather impressive gravity-defying moment, I fell up the stairs. As I was strolling through the living room later last evening, I dropped the magazine I was reading on the cat (it was Entertainment Weekly, thus lightened by fluff and not dangerous to small animals). Finally, mere minutes ago, I cracked my elbow on the kitchen table. Not lightly either.

I hope everyone's having an enjoyable weekend. I'll be sitting quietly, attempting to avoid further harm to myself and others, for the duration of the day.

Not to say there isn't an upside. After all, there is the Lima Bean. Want proof? Here's the heartbeat :-) Give it a'll know it when you hear it.

Any unusual cravings recently?

Posted by: cassie-b at March 6, 2005 09:56 AM

Bubble wrap. Or if that gets too sweaty, styrofoam blocks and twine. At least you haven't run yourself over with your own car, a la Gil... yet.

Posted by: mindy at March 6, 2005 09:56 AM

That sounds like a strong beat!!! Great to hear!

Posted by: JustAgirl at March 6, 2005 10:30 AM

Awwww... I love that sound...It was always my favorite part of my doctor visits.

as for your injuries... Bubblewrap is a great, nonexpensive method. a helmet might be helpful to you when going near the car too, lol

Hmmm. I can definitely relate to the bumps and bruises, but then it's a constant thing with me, not related to pregnancy or pregnancy sympathizing.

As for the audioblog...hearing a baby's heartbeat is just a WOW moment, and it never fails to make me smile. Thanks for sharing.

fashion a body suit out of bean bag chairs... though that won't provide head protection, but then lightning never strikes twice so your head should be safe for a while.

and i heard the bean over at Beth's... it's good to know there's a reason for the weight gain, clumsiness and absent-mindedness. =) oh, and i'm talking about just you there!

that's what it is? sympathy pregnancy clumsiness? i've suffered from that all my life! i'm the only i know who can trip while standing still.

Posted by: jodi at March 6, 2005 11:30 AM

What an awesome audioblog today! Amazing how fast their little hearts go. :) As for clumsiness, I still haven't gotten over mine from when it started almost 7 years ago. Crash helmets, knee and elobow pads are a good way to go. Any maybe you should get a few to fit the cats as well. :)

This is old news. I already had the pleasure of hearing it over at Beths.

*smacks gum*

The cats! Do the cats!!!! =D

Posted by: Phillip at March 6, 2005 12:38 PM

or you could be PMSing.

Posted by: laura at March 6, 2005 01:20 PM

oh that is great- head in door...

Posted by: stinkerbell at March 6, 2005 03:13 PM

Oh wow....I've never heard that sound before..(Well, TV doesn't count...) Thanks for sharing!

Now, both of you, off to the corner, and don't move till the Bean shows up in person!

(And those Jettas, man they're evil Dad-to-be eating critters....gotta keep an eye on them!)

Well, I'm not sure I've ever suffered from 'Sympathy Pregnancy Clumsiness,' as I've never been pregnant... but you've described the same sort of 'virus' I catch from time to time. My favorite is falling UP the steps. I'm also prone to tripping over the imaginary bump in the middle of a flat, tiled floor... and walking into door frames. But closing my head in the car door? Now THAT is a true talent!

Posted by: ironic1 at March 6, 2005 06:02 PM

So, like, is the kid skipping rope or something? ;)

Thanks so much for sharing that! And I think I've somehow become clumsy in Beth's pregnancy, too. I've got the Tallahassee sized bruise and a WHACKED my knee on Friday...

Posted by: alektra at March 6, 2005 06:50 PM

I never get tired of hearing a fetal heartbeat, it's so beautiful! As for your clumsiness....pad your body, sit in the middle of an empty room, and whatever you do...DON'T MOVE!!! hehehehe

Posted by: Nina at March 6, 2005 07:21 PM

That is sooooooooooooooooo sweet!
I'm so happy for you guys...
That's the most beautiful sounds I've heard.
I can't wait for the day I can listen to that coming from my belly.
Blessings to you both.

no operating of heavy machinery for chris.

Posted by: Snidget at March 6, 2005 10:00 PM

Oh thank you Chris for sharing. Having never had the chance to become pregnant this was very special to me more than you will realize. I often live my dreams through other peoples lives now since I know it will never be.

Posted by: Vickie at March 6, 2005 10:16 PM

First off, I LOVE the fact you just posted that. That's so intimate. Thanks for sharing.

I have to say, it sounded a lot like a techno beat with a gazillion beats per second. DJ Bean, pump this party! :)

Posted by: Sweety at March 7, 2005 01:50 AM

I suffer from clumsiness all the time. Not fun. Just last week I was standing in the kitchen perfectly normal-like and managed to sprain my ankle. I'm constantly amusing my husband with my clumsiness.

Posted by: Jessica at March 7, 2005 02:29 AM

somehow i suspect that you can drop a dictionary on your cat and it would be fine.... oooo, that's harsh i know.

Posted by: chlamygirl at March 7, 2005 06:46 AM

that is amazing!! you two must have been smiling ear to ear when you heard that........on the other side of things, sorry to hear of your clumsiness, lol!!

Posted by: lizabetty at March 7, 2005 08:53 AM

You fell UP the stairs? Wow, that's talented clumsiness. I have my ungraceful moments too, and yes, I've shut my head in a car door so I know exactly how you feel. (Both the injury and embarassment.)

Posted by: Kitty at March 7, 2005 09:42 AM

Wow, awesome heartbeat! Was the doctor confused when you and Beth both started talking about posting it to your blogs during the exam? :)

Posted by: supine at March 7, 2005 10:02 AM

I wish I could blame my clutzyness on something...but alas I just come from a long line of clutzes ask my mother who whislt going to the neighbor's to inform my dad she was going to the mall tripped in the neighbors driveway and ended up hugging his suburban to keep from falling in the is not wonder I am always breaking my collectible return of the jedi glass yesterday...oh I wanted to cry...but I tripped and stepped backwards right onto it and let me tell you obiwan...there was no hope for the glass..

Posted by: Amy at March 7, 2005 11:11 AM

such a beautiful, miraculous sound! thanks for sharing and bringing back some amazing memories for me.

Posted by: Tricia at March 7, 2005 11:27 AM

That is the sweetest sound ever!
I second the bubble wrap helmet suggestions.

Posted by: Sashinka at March 7, 2005 05:00 PM

Awwww! But isn't the little heartbeat worth it? I think so!
