Volunteers Needed!

Late last year, I set up a book club. Does anyone remember that? Yeah, I only have a vague recollection myself. We read a couple of books, discussed them and a good time was had by all (remember that one time with the strippers and the car giveaways?). But then the whole thing fell of my radar. I was just in there and its dusty, some of the lights are broken and its really creepy. Yet, I want to resurrect it...but only with your help. I'm looking for a few good readers to help run the site and moderate the forums. When my slack-ass, well, slacks, I won't bring the whole thing to a grinding halt.

Make sense? Okay...who's willing?

volunteers, eh...
are these books with large words in them?

I was just on the site like, last week...or was it the week before? Thinking how lonely those forums looked with no one playing the talkie-talkie on books. What will be involved in the moderating? Will we be able to twist peoples arms if they get out of line? Give virtual wedgies and such? Oh! I was wearing my RudeCactus wear out and about this past weekend. What a dude magnet the tank is!

Oh please let me help with this! Please let me be a grown up!!

I'd commit, but I have commitment issues. That and I don't really get to read very often. But I would try to read whatever you told me to. I'm a good follower like that.

I'm interested in participating; but I'm not sure my reading tastes are the norm. Of course, I do realize most reading clubs are there to get you to broaden your horizons... um... ok. I know you need volunteers, but I'm not sure what I could do to help. Might I also suggest running your book club through Dark Escapes ( They have forums, and it would be no trouble to set up a new one. And, I do know how to moderate over there. Plus, if you slack, it won't fall. If that interests you at all, let me know.

I'm tempted as my eyes are almost always bigger than my stomach, but I'm not kidding myself this time. I can't handle what I've got on my plate as it is. Chris, I am moving! Go see! Go see!

I can help :D If you want I will do my bestest to help keep it alive :D

Posted by: Amy at March 16, 2005 06:23 PM

Well, I think you might have sufficient interest from others to moderate, so I'll pass on that one (and it seems like alot of pressure....given that you're like world-reader extraordinaire!..:*) but I would like to participate. I read a fair amount and already participate in 1.5 book clubs (long story) which are pretty good. Keep us posted.

Am reading Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark far, so good, so funny...:*) I'll keep YOU posted on that one (if it's not on the Cactus-read list)

Totally willing but sadly unable. In one week I will pick up my first book in about 6 months. I am so excited about that that I'm not sure what to do with myself.

I would love to be a part of this. Let me know what is needed as far as helping goes if you still need help with it, but I'll definitely sign on to read with the group.

I wouldn't mind giving it a whirl, what would I have to do?

Posted by: Nina at March 16, 2005 10:39 PM

I get kind of spacey, but I'd love to join! It's just the whole spacey thing, again, that interferes... However, I'm always up for a good book and post-reading discussion!

Posted by: azzy at March 16, 2005 11:07 PM

Oh, that is such a good idea, but I know that I don't have time to help right now. I will cheer loudly from over here, though.

I definitely want to join as a reading member and will be watching for more information on this. As far as moderating a site and forums and such, I don't think I can do it right now but may very likely be able to in the future if someone needs to dropout or whatever.

I would love to, but I couldn't even read the books because I'm in TWO real-life book clubs that keep me pretty busy.

I don't read nearly as much as you because you are amazing super reader man!

Forums? What Forums? Is there a secret place with a super secret handshake that I've not been allowed in? Because that's fine, I'm just askin'. ;-)

I would like to help out. This whole parenthood thing has taken my knowledge of what books are out and hot out of my vision, so some direction on what might be a good read is always welcome.

Posted by: Angelia at March 17, 2005 11:42 AM

I've already offered via email, but I will reiterate my ability to help on any level here. I miss the book club.

Yes, yes, send details, details!

Posted by: Jason at March 17, 2005 12:43 PM

I'm in if you still need some help. Perhaps now I'll actually read some books instead of just buying them and letting them look pretty on the shelf. Or maybe I won't???

Posted by: Gweny at March 17, 2005 05:09 PM

i haven't read all the comments but i'm guessing you have enough moderators already. if not, i'm game. i was just thinking about the book club the other day actually. kept telling myself to click over and check things out but the week has been crazy. hoping things slow a bit so i can get back into the swing.

Posted by: patricia at March 17, 2005 07:54 PM

Count me in Chris. I need to do something worthwhile.

Posted by: Joe at March 18, 2005 01:40 AM

I'm in. I've also been kicking around the idea of a local book club if you and Beth are game.
