Open Letter To Hump Day

Dear Hump Day,

Look, I'm not trying to be an ass or pick a fight but, come on! Hump Day should, like its moniker, be fun and chock-full of whimsy. I'm looking around and you know what I'm not seeing a hell of a lot of? Whimsy. I seem, instead, to be experiencing some sort of rift in the space-time continuum. And as much as I love a good continuum, this day seems incredibly, insanely, long. Marathon long. War and Peace long. John Holmes long. It should be, at the very least, 5:00 by now...on Friday. Okay, so, I don't actually have a hell of a lot to do this week. sure, 75% of the office is out on vacation. And no, I haven't actually gotten a work-related email since 11:07 this morning. Still...speed this shit up already!

Thank you,
Chris

It's the holiday week/weekend. Screws up the work week everytime.

Those are the days I blog the most. Then eat something. Then play some games. Then eat something. Then call everyone. Then eat something. Then use the facilities. Then eat something. Then blog some more. Then eat lunch. Then...

4 more freaking hours. enough already. it's time to go home!

Posted by: judy at July 6, 2005 02:26 PM

I second that motion! This bites! It's not even lunch time here so I've got a looooooooooong freaking way to go. Drats and double drats.

when you think about it, hump is not a very attractive word.

Posted by: jodi at July 6, 2005 03:05 PM

I agree even though I just got back from vacation.

Posted by: Pixie at July 6, 2005 03:06 PM

"John Holmes long"....OMG, Chris!

Posted by: lu at July 6, 2005 03:43 PM

i'm sorry, it seems that it is the same way over here. must be one of those rips as you say. i have nothing! nothing! nothing... to do!!!

Posted by: angel at July 6, 2005 04:11 PM

It's a universal phenomenon!! What is going on? This morning my stomach started growling...I thought, well now, Carrster, you have to hold on until 11 because that's your snack time and it's got to almost be 10:30 - it was 8:56!!!!!! So. Not. Cool.

Posted by: carrster at July 6, 2005 04:13 PM

I have often thought that the apparent length of day during a pre or post holiday week is in direct proportion to the percentage of vacationing co-workers.

Agreed!

Agreed!

You know, my day is dragging too. Strangely, I have a lot to do, but no motivation to do any of it.

Thankfully, it is almost 5 for me now.

Posted by: donna at July 6, 2005 05:06 PM

It's dragging at an insanely slow pace here today as well. Even the hour long lunch, which was over perhaps 20 minutes ago, seems like it was over 3 hours ago and I still have 2 hours left here.

Yes, but isn't it nice that you can post from work?!

Down with this Wednesday!

Posted by: Anne at July 6, 2005 05:21 PM

I think the worst part is knowing everyone else is on vacation and their day must be ZIPPING by...

I feel your pain, Chris, I really do.

Posted by: Bonanza Jellybean at July 6, 2005 05:25 PM

one of the places i used to work at (a direct mail house) used the phrase "mid-week crisis" to describe wednesdays... i've stuck with it.

it's like people realize the weeks half over and decide they need things done like right NOW!

Posted by: monique at July 6, 2005 05:37 PM

Dont'cha just love it when there's almost nobody around? Unfortunately for us, we're a global company, so there are always some people around. But not as many!! and that's good

Posted by: cassie-b at July 6, 2005 06:05 PM

I have an hour and a half left in my work day and I'm about to start shrieking uncontrollably. Just think positive. Vitamins and exercise. Vitamins and exercise. Vitamins and exercise...

oh dear dawg... "John Holmes long" - If ya got no wimsy in your life - MAKE IT! heh. That was one hellaciously funny finish to that riff. Thank ya for the giggle.

I'm right there with you RC!

4 days weeks feel like 8 day weeks. What's with that???

But luckily I have my new Coldplay CD playing over and over again. Man, they rock as lyricists!!!

I remember when I was little, I looked forward to hump day ... I think because Charlie's Angels was on or something. Or maybe I had brownies, can't remember.

Now? Not so much. :(

Posted by: chepooka at July 6, 2005 08:15 PM

That was a lovely letter...almost as good as the one Brooke Shields wrote, only hers didn't mention John Holmes. I think that's what was missing, then it would have been perfect! ;)

Hope you got more Hump in your day! :)

Posted by: Kate at July 6, 2005 08:19 PM

I notice that inanimate objects and days of the week NEVER talk back when you tell them something...how rude hee!!

Posted by: Nina at July 6, 2005 09:23 PM

it's almost thursday! then comes friday! yay!

Posted by: lizabetty at July 6, 2005 09:56 PM

You're just jealous because no one tried to hump your leg today, admit it.

(p/s just a heads up, I changed my platform and domain name - I'm www.outtmymind.net now) ;)

*humping Chris' leg*

Posted by: Ro at July 6, 2005 11:40 PM

ooh...it was like that for me too.
i swear at about 10:15 i looked at the clock, thinking it was lunchtime. you can imagine my disappointment.....

it was a long, long day.

(and there was NO humping involved on my hump day, either...)
