The Needle...And The Damage Done

Close your eyes and imagine this. Oh, wait...I take that back. You wouldn't be able to read. So visualize, if you will, this little scenario. You're in a training class on effective management. The instructor asks a question and you, since you try and be helpful and insightful, respond in knee-jerk fashion.

Instructor: So, what are some other impediments to job performance we haven't discussed yet today?

You answer with, what you feel, is the most appropriate and astute observation. This is:

a. Lack of motivation due to poor salary and/or benefits.
b. Humdrum work days without the benefit of added challenges.
c. Heroin addiction. What? It's not something we've discussed and I bet it sure has an impact on performance!

Do I need to tell you which one I went with?

If you wanna ride...ride the White Horse...

That sounds like a David Brent moment.

Well that is quite a topic suggestion...I wish I was in a class with you. I have a feeling it would be a lot less dull. :)

i cannot believe you didn't bring up internet porn. or was that already discussed?

My blog addiction has had a far bigger (negative)impact on my job performance than my heroin addiction has.

d. Did you just say something?

Posted by: Oakley at July 14, 2005 01:18 AM

Was there a choice of:
D. All of the above

Poor salary/lack of benefits=low motivation
Which in turn=humdrum workdays...That which then in turn leads to smack use to try and just get ya thru the day! Just don't leave your stash lying around! That would be bad.

I can top that. Really.

Last night, after a fabulous prepared meal was *slathered* with bbq sauce - lemon pepper chicken & bbq sauce? - he says, "I hope you're not offended, but I always put bbq sauce on my chicken."

You guess my response:
A. That's fine.
B. Next time I'll just make yours plain then so you can add the bbq.
C. It just shows your *lack* of taste.

Yeah, I'm f'ing brillany.

heh heh. you are my *favorite* type of person to be in a meeting with. at my job, during our last consulting meeting, when Consultant Guy asked us to list reasons why the employees weren't following The Process, did i say: a) insufficiant training, b) lackluster supervision, or c) retarded employees.
