Two Years, 1,421 Entries Later

I had intended to bring you a freakishly brilliant post that I'd almost completely finished earlier this morning. It would have seriously knocked your socks (and quite possibly your undies) off. Then, in a bizarre yet increasingly frequent triumph of technology over common sense, my browser locked up and I had to kill the whole thing without saving a word of what I'd written. Why the hype? Well, it dawned on me last night that, while Rude Cactus was officially launched in June of 2003, it wasn't until August that I started providing hardcore, man-on-journal blogging action. So, yes, its my blogiversary!

In this aforementioned now-lost entry, I summarized the high points from the last two years. But, despite the fact that I'm working from home today and really don't have all that much on my plate, I don't have the time to do all that again. Plus the process of going back and reading some of my own stuff was a little embarrassing. I wrote some terribly inane shit, people. It's amazing you stuck with me as long as many of you have.

Regardless of how long you've been reading my humble little site, I thank you. You've put up with a lot. And I want you to know that, as cathartic as its been to put whatever it is I've written out there, the best part is the people I've met along the way.

Two years, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't seem all that long. Yet two years ago, I don't think I'd have been able to imagine life as it is today. I'm one lucky bastard. Thanks for sharing the journey with me.

You lucky bastage.. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

Posted by: Angelia at August 19, 2005 08:19 AM

Thanks for sharing with us :) It's always nice to get one of your silly blogs early in the morning...makes the work day start off a little easier!

Posted by: Michelle at August 19, 2005 08:24 AM

since i'm sure this lost entry mentioned me by name, i'm quite sorry that it didn't make it onto the site. however, i won't let that bad bit of luck interfere with accepting your kind thanks and returning them two-fold. (aside, i ♥ using two-fold)

anyhoo. it's way to early for me to be trying to be funny -- as evidenced by the above. so, merci buckets my friend. here's to many more! happy blogiversary.

despite sounding repetative; thanks for sharing your life with us. it's been great being able to share in some of your life. and quite inspirational, i must add. so, thanks. :)

Happy Blogiversary! And thank you for your well-wishes, I appreciate it. Even though I was a horribly defunct blogger and didn't leave you a comment for almost a month!

Congrats on your Blogiversary! Thank you so much for inviting us into your lives. It's been fun (and I hope it will continue to be so for a long time). :-)

Thanks for letting us. Happy Blogiversary!

Your site is one of my favorites. I enjoy reading your stories and seeing the pictures you take. As a married person considering children, its nice to see "cool" people with baby. Perhaps life doesnt end when you have children, it begins. ( Sorry, its early and apparently I am very cliche at this time of day...)

Happy Blogiversary! And here's to many more :)

Chris, happy anniversary. As you know (because I've told ya before!) I really do like yours and your wife's sites.

My daily visit to your site is a welcome mini-break in an otherwise chaotic day. I appreciate your honesty and your effort to make things interesting. Keep up the good work and here's to the next two years being equally as satisfying both in real life and in the blogosphere.

Posted by: wn at August 19, 2005 09:48 AM

Two years - I would say the high point was when we were all cheering you on when you and Beth were uh, trying to see if your guys could swim or sink. That was really funny and also quite sweet.

You rock. Thanks for sharing your life with us. And your wife is hot, and your baby is truly CUTE.

Posted by: samantha at August 19, 2005 09:56 AM

Congrats to you! I'm coming up on one year, myself and it seems like I've been reading blogs forever. Thank god for this little part of the world, you know?

Posted by: JuJuBee at August 19, 2005 10:01 AM

I always go back and read some of my schtuff. It amazes me how I don't think I've changed, but wow, I have.

Posted by: dazeymae at August 19, 2005 10:08 AM

no better lucky bastard to share it with :)

Posted by: stinkerbell at August 19, 2005 10:09 AM

Oy. Luckily for me, my archives seem to get periodically deleted whenever I switch things around. And shoot, I'm embarrassed about things I wrote just yesterday, heh.

Happy anniversary! May the next two years rock as well.

i only wish i had come across your blog back then! happy blogaversary.

Posted by: angel at August 19, 2005 10:11 AM

Thank you! It's nice to check in every day or so to see what interesting topic you are writing or thinking about.

Posted by: Sarah at August 19, 2005 10:16 AM

Well, I've been around only for a couple of months, but I've read some of your old stuff, does that count?
Congratulations on your blogiversary!!

Posted by: ava at August 19, 2005 10:21 AM

Happy 'versary. Isn't it just amazing how much life changes? I love it.

Posted by: Lisa at August 19, 2005 10:32 AM

Happy Blogiversary. Can't wait to keep reading what happens in the next couple of years.

Posted by: Adi at August 19, 2005 11:01 AM

Happy Blogiversary! You are definitely one of the best and not just a little bit of an inspiration to me. But, I've gotten where I am way too dependent on my daily Rude Cactus fix. If you ever decide to hang it up, you'll have to provide a reasonable facsimile (like Chris-odone or something) so I don't shrivel up and die from the withdrawals. I've loved the journey so far and I can't wait to see where life takes us in the future! Cheers!

Posted by: Ms. Q at August 19, 2005 11:01 AM

I hope you know how much we've all enjoyed watching you and your family grow, thanks for letting us share. Here's to many more years of laughter and weird meanderings (toasts with coffee cup). =)

Congrats. And thank you for sharing with us.

I know for you, and for me, that the past couple year have been quite... interesting. May the next couple be as wonderful and amazing.

WOW two years! I can't imagine going for one year but the blogging business is booming and I gotte keep up with the JOnes's. (HUH? Why did I write that? I never write that saying! It was just an excuse to impress you with my commenting abilities!

Posted by: mrsmogul at August 19, 2005 12:46 PM

The "insane shit" as you call it, is part of what makes your blog kick some serious ass!
Reading your blog is like reading a book that you never want to end... and it doesn't end. Happy Blogiversary, hope we get another two years and 1,421 posts of Cactusy goodness!

Posted by: Erin at August 19, 2005 12:51 PM

Blogiversaries rock!! This month marks my...fourth Livejournaliversary! And I have gone back and read old posts and then beat my head into the desk because wow, I was really vague in most of my posts and now have no idea what I was talking about. And the stuff I did understand I regretted reading because boys? Yeah. Kind of made for interesting LJ fodder.

Sorry for the ramble. I'm glad your blog exists! It is both exciting and fun :)

Posted by: Rhonda at August 19, 2005 01:04 PM

so i believe the 2nd year anniversary gift would be cotton? so.. maybe we should all get you cloth diapers?

Posted by: jodi at August 19, 2005 01:16 PM

I just stayed cause I thought you were hot. I never read your entries.

;) 'Kiddin. Thanks for sharing with us Chris. :)

Posted by: Stacey at August 19, 2005 02:47 PM

Isn't that always the case? Browser locked up, fish put up a good fight and broke the line, two inches from a hole in one. All cliches. I have written brilliant posts in my head on the drive home from work but the second I sit down, I forget what it's about but I know it would have been mind boggling.

I haven't been reading you all that much but it is fastly becoming one of my favourites.

Posted by: Grace at August 19, 2005 03:13 PM

*snif, snif* awww Chris. We all just love ya so much. It's nice to see everyone happy

You are stuck with me. Hope you have a happy day and I wish you many more wonderful and compelling posts in the future! {{now breaking into, "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow...}}

Congratulations on two years! Thank you for all of your encouragement on my little site and for all of the inspiration you provide on your own. I can't wait to continue reading all about you and your family.

Yes you are a lucky bastard, and about time you admitted it hee! Seriously, we are the lucky ones, because you entertain us so well :-)

Posted by: Nina at August 19, 2005 09:14 PM

Feliz cumpleanos amigo! Aww, two years is a long time. I wonder if years in blogging is like dog years? Like one fiscal year is the equivalent of like 17 blogging years?

Posted by: Chris at August 19, 2005 09:43 PM

Congrats! I can't wait to see what comes our way in these next two years! Thanks, too, for keeping me entertained and enlightened.

Posted by: ironic1 at August 19, 2005 10:21 PM

Doesn't that just suck! I've lost many a posts that way.

Happy Blogiversary!!!

And, btw, I love my Hybrid. LOVE IT!!!

We had a VW Golf, loved that too, especially the heated seats.

Dude! This may have been said already, but "Write it in Word!" I never trust a browser to save my work, after having had bad experiences in the past. Cut and paste!

And VERY HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY to you. I don't know what I'd do without ya. :)
