The Ass-Crack of Dawn

We figured, if we want Mia to sleep in the car on the way to the beach, we should probably go when she wakes up. She usually naps after a quick snack anyway. So, its 4:30...we've been up for half an hour...the car is loaded...we're heading out. Daddy needs coffee.

Wish us luck.

oh, luck! I'm just trying to get back to sleep- wish someone would snuggle me down in a car seat and take me for a ride...
We did that with Dan at 3 months and he stayed awake for the next 13 hours. But Mia sounds ever so much more peaceful. :-) Luck- and enjoy!

Enjoy your trip! We tried the early morning departure once but offspring refused to fall back alseep. We settle on frequent breaks instead and that works very well.

Good luck

Worth a try, eh? Enjoy the sunrise (and the coffee) and have a great time at the beach!

I've been up since 5:15 in Texas, which is about an hour and a half later than y'all decided to rise and shine. But I'm pretty sure y'all got the better end of the deal. I mean -- the beach?! I just get to to go work. Lucky dogs...

My parents and I were discussing last evening how parents forget to tell their kids things -- like that there's salt in the ocean. When Mia's big enough to run out into it, remember to tell her to expect salt. She'll appreciate it. :o)

Have a wonderful vacation, Mia's first trip to the beach! Did you get her one of those CUTE little baby bikinis? hehe

Have a fantastic time! There's nothing quite like a change of scene.

Looking forward to reading about the first newly extended family holiday!

All the best!

Sounds like fun...bundle up though! I'm sure the wind off the ocean'll be cold! It's getting chilly lately! I mean, I got up and left this morning for work and it was 48 degrees outside! BRRRR...you know it's getting to be fall when you see your breath in the air! Have a great time at the beach! Hope Mia sleeps..bring her Eyeore!

Have a safe and uneventful drive.

LOL - we tried that with Sierra - she turned a 5 hour drive into an 8 hour drive, and she cried all.the.way. ! It's taken us 2 months to get her over her fear of the carseat since that trip. Our trip next weekend? We're going to try rocking her to sleep, slipping her into her carseat and then driving 5 hours through the night. Hopefully we'll have better results! I hope that Mia is a much better passenger than Sierra is! BTW - how did you manage to sneak off to post?

i cannot even begin to tell you how wrong it is to be up that early! we've found that leaving the night before is the best way to get some good driving in with the child asleep, of course it messes us up a bit - but we're pretty messed up as it is.

drive safe, have fun and take lots of pictures!

when I was a kid, my family used to drive every summer from Washington DC to Louisiana to stay two weeks at my grandmother's. My parents always made us leave at like 5 a.m. Then we'd stop at a hotel and swim at like 3, go to bed early, and get up and do it again the next day. It was a good plan. The three of us kids didn't ever kill each other in the back seat anyway.

Holy moly, I can't even fathom that time of day!

Actually I can. J got his wisdom teeth out yesterday and woke up at 3am with pain. So my whole body is out of whack today because of my interruped sleep. But I'd rather deal with that than have a husband in extreme pain.

There's a 4 a.m.??? Actually, I believe I've seen it once or twice, but I was still up from the day before.

Man, that's early. We were all up that early yesterday morning because apparently it was time to play. Just think of your destination though, that's a good payoff for the early morning.

I hope she sleeps for you. And lets you two sleep tonight! Have fun!

Good luck - let me know how the detour works out if you take it!!

It's 4am and you stopped to blog? You are a saint, Chris.
You and Beth have fun!
Mia too, of course.

i'd feel less sorry for you if it weren't for the fact that you are up that early to go to the beach. and not to work. :)

but, ok... good luck at the beach.
