I Prefer The Term "Eccentric"

You all started when...ummm...damn, I don't know how to explain this.

During the past week or so, we've bathed Mia in the evenings. I like to help. Bathtime? Fun! Mia digs the water, loves splashing and playing with all her little bath toys. And while it's been a lot of fun for me, it's also proven one thing beyond any doubt - Beth and I are 12.

Last night's bath devolved (very quickly, I might add) into a hardcore water fight, complete with water-spitting fish attacks. Beth eventually exited to get a bucket for easier water throwage. I figured I might as well beat her to the punch.

Apparently, if you want full-blown crazy? Just add water.

Usually 12 year olds are much too dignifed for that sort of thing.

Try 8.

Actually (aside from the part where it looks like you've massively wet yourself), its a pretty good picture of you!

Posted by: QC at May 4, 2006 07:26 AM

I needed that smile. Thanks!

Posted by: Wicked H at May 4, 2006 07:38 AM

Do you have your shoes on?

This is so something James and I would do...

Posted by: Emily at May 4, 2006 07:46 AM

You guys play with your food, too, don't you?

Posted by: Allan at May 4, 2006 07:48 AM

Just another picture that illustrates to me that you and Beth (and likely Mia) are my kind of peoples!

Posted by: wn at May 4, 2006 07:55 AM

So where's Mia?

Posted by: Alissa at May 4, 2006 07:58 AM

This is my idea of a perfect marriage.

You an Beth are so lucky to have each other :)

Posted by: Melissa at May 4, 2006 08:03 AM

I really should have taken the picture before I took Mia out of the tub.

Posted by: Mrs. Cactus at May 4, 2006 08:08 AM

I'm fighting the overwhelming urge to make up a word to fit here... "Soddentary"? Wait, no.
"Aquaprone?" Nah. "Eccentric" works.

Posted by: JuJu's Mom Linda at May 4, 2006 08:22 AM

My twelve-year-old just sat down at the computer and saw this. He said, "Twelve-year-olds are WAY too dignified to do something like this. This is like something YOU would do."

Uh, thanks?

Posted by: jen at May 4, 2006 08:23 AM

I can't stop admiring that nice ledge you have for shampoo and stuff.

Posted by: Alison at May 4, 2006 08:32 AM

Hey, it sounds like fun to me! Great picture, and way to beat Beth at the game.

Posted by: Jessie at May 4, 2006 08:36 AM

I am too old or I need a vacation. The first thought I had was "who had to clean up the mess and I bet it was Beth". See...a vacation is needed!

Posted by: daisy at May 4, 2006 08:43 AM

Water fights are awesome. We had one in college that lasted for hours. When we were done, all the water balloon detritus around looked like a busful of clowns exploded.

Which would be a good thing.

Posted by: Nicole at May 4, 2006 08:45 AM

*blink blink* are you guys spying on Forrest and I, because this TOTALLY happened to us last week. It ended with Forrest in the shower thinking he was safe and all was over, and me dumping a bucket of cold water on him. and it started with the squirting fish you speak of... during Shepherd's bath.

Posted by: Corinne at May 4, 2006 08:46 AM

Just add soap and agitate! :)

Posted by: MrsJoseGoldbloom at May 4, 2006 08:50 AM

you guys are so cute. can i move in?

Posted by: pea at May 4, 2006 09:14 AM

Can we come and hang out with you and Beth and Mia? You all are right up our alley.

Posted by: candace at May 4, 2006 09:27 AM

That look on the face adds something to the whole picture too.

Posted by: ash at May 4, 2006 09:51 AM

Heeee. Admit it: this had nothing to do with the baby, did it?

Posted by: Fraulein N at May 4, 2006 09:56 AM

I'm much to mature to have waterfights. At home.

At work, it's an entirely different matter. Hardly a day goes by without a water fight. Because we're professionals, damnit.

Posted by: Contrary at May 4, 2006 10:11 AM

I'm certainly not taking sides here, but in the interest of creative expression, a glass of ice-cold water casually poured over the curtain rod while a nameless loved one is taking a hot shower?

Oh the screams that issue forth!

Posted by: wordgirl at May 4, 2006 10:13 AM

Bath night at your house looks like a barrel of monkeys. You guys are fuh-ny

Posted by: meghan at May 4, 2006 10:35 AM

Um, I have a 12 year old. This way too immature for that... Although, my 12 yo is a girl... she would have been like Beth, and going for the bucket, so, maybe... Looks like fun though.

Posted by: Karen at May 4, 2006 10:39 AM

That sounds like so much fun!!

Posted by: Ava at May 4, 2006 11:40 AM

I so heart you today.

Posted by: the speckledpup at May 4, 2006 11:42 AM

Ahhh, words AND Too funny. Isn't it just grand trying to peel off wet jeans? We had a food fight last night. All I can say is neevr pick one with a Marine.

Posted by: Jaycie at May 4, 2006 12:09 PM

That's a rad pic. Plus, you just look so happy, which is a bonus. Usually in your pics you look more...I dunno, pensive?

Posted by: Heather at May 4, 2006 12:31 PM

You know, I'm starting to suspect that you and Beth are pretty cool people, heh.

(Yeah, I know: "You're STARTING to suspect? Just STARTING?" Hahaha.)

Posted by: Spring at May 4, 2006 12:51 PM

Yeah. I only have one question - where's Mia? :)

Posted by: Laura at May 4, 2006 12:56 PM

Am I wrong? Or is there, like, AN INCH of water in that bathtub?

Posted by: s@bd at May 4, 2006 01:03 PM

Just remember it's not a party until someone tosses in the plugged-in toaster!

Posted by: bhd at May 4, 2006 01:13 PM

If you weren't in that picture smiling, I would have assumed Beth knocked you out during the water fight and left you there.

Posted by: Mary at May 4, 2006 01:18 PM

Songkran--Thai New Year and festival where the whole country engages in nationwide water fights for an entire week in a water fight--was 3 weeks ago, kids. (B and I only got to splash each other a bit. The water guns are still packed in the garage somehwere).

But hey, I didn't think Songkran would catch on in the traditions of Cinco de Mayo and St. Patty's day in your household! ;-D

Posted by: oakley at May 4, 2006 01:20 PM

I dunno, it seems just as easy to believe as the ones that start out with "okay so after the Jaggermeister snowcones..."

Posted by: Nic at May 4, 2006 01:25 PM

You never fail to crack me up...and I needed a good laugh today!!!

Posted by: Michelle at May 4, 2006 01:43 PM

And you were SOBER while you did this?

Mia should start her own blog. She'd have lots of funny, entertaing blog material just from her parents alone.

Posted by: Lisa B at May 4, 2006 01:51 PM

I'm SO glad you guys aren't the kind of parents that get mad at water being splashed out of the tub. One of my cousin's three kids haven't had ANY fun as children because their mom is an absolute neat freak. Messes can be fun, and water is the cleanest mess of all!

Posted by: Beth in StL at May 4, 2006 02:18 PM

There are some days, where I'm glad we don't live in close proximity. Oh the trouble we'd all get into.

Posted by: statia at May 4, 2006 02:49 PM

*Snort* You. Guys. Rock. Great picture for a great memory. I love that you enjoy each other so much.

Posted by: Tink at May 4, 2006 02:52 PM

There is NOTHING. NOTHING wrong with water fun!

Posted by: Queen of Ass at May 4, 2006 03:34 PM

So that makes me and hubby 12 as well. You are in good company. Do you guys have super soakers???? They are the best.

Posted by: Melissa at May 4, 2006 03:38 PM

it's not so much that your are fully clothed IN THE TUB (I have found myself in this situation more than once I am ashamed to admit) it's the sheer bliss you seem to be in.

Posted by: Pamalamadingdong at May 4, 2006 03:45 PM

You two!!! :) So does it make me 12 too if I found that story completely par for what goes on around my house? You should consider yourself lucky that you guys can still have that much fun together, I think it's great. Crazy kids!

Posted by: Kate at May 4, 2006 07:14 PM

Haha. That is just typical of a guy to do that instead of losing to a girl.

Posted by: Lyn at May 4, 2006 10:12 PM

Explain? What's to explain? Don't most people do this? ;D

Posted by: Kristina at May 4, 2006 11:15 PM

That is should blow that up, frame it, and put it on your living room wall.

Posted by: Dana at May 5, 2006 06:48 AM

That is funny!!!!!

Posted by: linda at May 5, 2006 09:44 AM

oh god. when Keli was a baby? Totally something her dad and I would have gone in for. or before she was even born. yeah. we were soooooooooooooo mature.

how completely fun. great photo. you guys rock and Mia is really lucky to have such fun parents. That question you asked me the other day about me and Kel? You know - that one I never answered... THIS is how it works. You are a rock solid family unit and will go far toward making great relationships for each of you with Mia and for all three of you together. Enjoy each and every one of these times as you obviously are...

Posted by: Keri at May 5, 2006 02:42 PM

You guys are so much fun. Mia is lucky to have you which I am sure she will realize until Junior High when all your antics will embarrass her in front of her friends.

(Although her friends will say you are the coolest parents, like, EVER!)

Posted by: Janet at May 5, 2006 07:16 PM

If there was a best couple ever award, you two would have my vote :)

Posted by: laura at May 6, 2006 11:24 AM

The more fun the better... this grown up thing is for the birds! ;-)

And hey you are smiling, not scowling. Who can blame ya for having a bit of (water) fun?

Posted by: Bethany at May 6, 2006 04:34 PM

DUDE that so explains it all. I am so crazy because... I am a water baby! :)
I feel so much more at peace now...
