Swimming (Zoom Zoom)

This morning, the three of us hit the pool. It was going to go one of two ways - either Mia would be ecstatic or she'd throw a fit and we'd be out of there in under five minutes. Luckily for all of us, she chose option A.

We had a great time - Mia seemed to like the extraordinarily large outdoor bathtub. Beth and I had a good time too, especially when we heard one of the other kid's names - Zoom. I shit you not. This seemingly intelligent woman named her kid Zoom. See that beach ball in the background of the middle picture? It's even got the kid's name written on it.

So...swimming? Check! Worst name ever? Check. Tomorrow? The zoo!

(Oh, by the way, for those of you who might have noticed, yes, I do believe I look as though I have the body of a 50 year old dude complete with saggy man-boobs in that picture. And I'm not happy about it. Gah. I hate getting older but I guess it's preferable to the alternative.)

You wear a cap even in the pool?

She was SO cute in that bathing suit! I don't think you have moobs. I don't know how much my opinion counts, but I definitely don't think you have moobs. And look! In picture #3 -- you can see some of Mia's ceiling! This will of course not be exciting to anyone other than myself, but hey - a corner is a corner.

Posted by: Emily at May 30, 2006 08:34 PM

Is that the cutest bathing suit or what?!?!?!? Mia is precious...and not in that crazy lord of the rings way...but in the old fashioned way.

Nice hat and shades and devilish smile! Where are these moobs?? I don't see 'em.

And, 'Zoom'.......not so much!

Posted by: Starfruit at May 30, 2006 08:38 PM

love the first pic of Mia pulling herself up...and no, you don't look like a 50 year old man by any means. Zoom (not my first choice in names for a child, a pet...maybe) beats that singer that named his son Inspector (or something like that)!

Posted by: christina at May 30, 2006 09:43 PM

She looks SO cute in her little swimmers! Did she get submerged? And if so, how did she like her ears getting wet? We haven't taken Kira swimming yet since we're heading into winter, but she "floats" in the tub and doesn't mind the ear-wetting thing so I'm hoping that sticks with her when we get around to going swimming.

Totally cute girl in the bathing suit! You are adorable! Stop it with the sagging man boobs! By no means should you start feeling pressure to get implants! you know men are now obsessed like women! No implants! If you need to, swim more! With the Mia! Best exercise ever! : )

Posted by: Gypsy at May 30, 2006 10:00 PM

I have a friend who named his son Cosmo. and he has a nephew named zaddock. eek.

her suit is way to cute!

Posted by: betty at May 30, 2006 10:19 PM

A co-workers friend just named her baby "Brickie". Yep. Brickie. But I do think Zoom is worse.

You look fine. You're just all hunched over. You should see me in a bathing suit! Talk about bad!

Posted by: Alissa at May 30, 2006 10:19 PM

you know, this generation of weirdly-named children that are currently being produced are in turn, as a reactionary measure, going to name their children extrodinarily ordinary names. I predict a throw-back in 20-30 years to names like Ann(e) or Bob.

Zoom? Apple? And to think my grandparents once thought Kirsten was too weird a name for a baby, and threw a fit, and thus I ended up with the boringest name ever: susan.

oh, and you have the cutest little girl ever. I know i've said that before, but it warrants repeating.

Posted by: suze at May 30, 2006 10:38 PM

You and Mia are both showing a little early summer cleavage, is all. She has her shoulders back, as every girl should, whereas you are (as another commenter noted) all hunched over. If you'd throw your tan-free shoulders back with tanless confidence, I am certain your glow-in-the-dark cleavage will settle down to appropriately manly proportions. :-)

Posted by: shelley at May 30, 2006 10:43 PM

MAN BOOBS!! aaahhh, that's so funny!

Posted by: Aurelia at May 31, 2006 12:06 AM

So. Darn. Cute. Oh and you're not bad either. Hehe.

Zoom is a pretty weird choice for a kid. I was thinking of naming our next (assuming we have another) something from Lord of the Rings. Is that too crazy? I named my son Forrest and so far no kids have shouted "Run Forrest run!" to him, but I've let it slip once or twice.

Posted by: Mary at May 31, 2006 02:11 AM

Mia is just adorable and I'm so happy to hear that a good time was had by all. And man-boobs? Please, whatever (although it is kind of nice to hear that women aren't the only ones who feel a bit insecure about being in a swimsuit - if I would let my rolls stop me I'd never have any fun though).

Posted by: Beth in StL at May 31, 2006 05:37 AM

I am insanely jealous... I should be hanging out at the pool or the zoo instead of sweltering away in an insanely hot, brick school building with tons of hot, sweaty (and not in a good way) ankle-biters. Enjoy your freedom this week! I shall live vicariously through you and Mia (and Beth, too)!

Posted by: ironic1 at May 31, 2006 07:31 AM

OMG man boobs! ROFLMAO

Posted by: Red at May 31, 2006 07:38 AM

Zoom. What a idiotic name. I wonder if they own a Mazda as well?

Posted by: Michelle at May 31, 2006 08:26 AM

OMG. Great photos.

Posted by: Jenn at May 31, 2006 08:27 AM

Now I have that damned Mazda jingle in my head. I can only hope Zoom was that kid's nickname. Love Mia "posing" in the bathing suit!

And no, you don't have moobs.

Posted by: Fraulein N at May 31, 2006 08:39 AM

I knew a kid named Snapper.

Posted by: wlfldy at May 31, 2006 08:55 AM

Zoom, eh? That's almost as bad as Pilot Inspektor.

Posted by: mama_tulip at May 31, 2006 09:04 AM

Looks like it was fun. And, I don't think you look old.

Zoom?! What were the parent's names? My son's baseball team played against a team with a kid named Sky on it, and he played soccer with a kid named Storm. Whatever drugs those people are on, must be reallllly good.

Posted by: Karen at May 31, 2006 09:29 AM

Ok, Zoom makes me feel a little better about my new nephew named Brad Leigh. Although I still think he's going to spend his whole life saying "No, it's Brad Leigh, not Bradley." And then there's the whole Leigh vs. Lee thing, because I think Leigh is the girl way to spell it. Then again, what do I know. My name is spelled with an "i" instead of a "y." I blame my mom. ;)

Posted by: Traci at May 31, 2006 09:33 AM

What a cutie! And Mia's pretty adorable also. ;-)

Posted by: Krush at May 31, 2006 09:47 AM

Hmm... I see no moobs. If you're worried about your muscle tone, though, just start bench pressing Mia. Granted, it won't be much of a workout right now, but she'll get a kick out of it. You don't want to wait and jump in when she's a big heavy three-year-old, trust me.

Posted by: Kate the Shrew at May 31, 2006 10:38 AM

I too want to type about moobs - ya don't have 'em. So far as I understand you are a desk dweller, no? Therefore expectations of you looking like a roofer would be unrealistic.

I think everyone should attend water aerobics with barrel-shaped people several decades older than you, it does WONDERS for your swimsuit mentality. I rock out the jiggle thighs and wiggly arms like none other! The stick-figure waterproof mascara gals look hungry and grumpy most of the time (and disapointed that no one gives a crap about their fake tans and bikinis).

As to bad names, I've contemplated naming my first (yet to be concieved) boy "Sharkie" but got over it by assigning it as a nick-name to my dog. Whew!

Posted by: Betti at May 31, 2006 11:27 AM

What's the alternative to getting older? Becoming a Vampire? ;-)

(oh you meant DEATH. I get it.)

Posted by: Ginny at May 31, 2006 01:27 PM

Zoom?! What are they, PBS stock holders?

I have a cousin named Rocky. The rest are named, Gina, Tony, and Nicci. F'n Italians.

Best/Worst names ever? Ima and Ura Hogg.

And you DONT have man boobs. Worry if Mia starts turning to you for milk.

Posted by: Tink at May 31, 2006 01:48 PM

Why do I love to see little kids in swimming suits?? Please tell me that's totally normal and I'm not some sort of freak!

Because that kid of yours looks adorable! (and so happy...)

Posted by: Isabel at May 31, 2006 02:19 PM

Zoom, you've got to be kidding me. Hopefully it's a nickname. If they have another one they could name him Zoinks.

Posted by: Melissa at May 31, 2006 02:41 PM

I kinda like Zoom. Though it would be more appropriate for a rodent or cat than child. Your daughter is cuter and cuter each time I see her!! I believe she's breaking all sorts of cutness laws.

Posted by: Pixie at May 31, 2006 04:11 PM

See, I have to disagree. I think Zoom is a rocking name! Not one I would name MY kid, you understand, but just think about your kid having that cool highschool friend named Zoom. Or shouting out "HEY ZOOM!" across the mall? It's like free license to always talk like a kid!

Posted by: the weirdgirl at June 1, 2006 01:24 AM

Heh. Moobs.

Posted by: Broad at June 1, 2006 02:40 PM

Mia looks like she's practicing her future-model pose in that first picture. What a cutie. :) And as for the "man boobs"...whatever! You're leaning forward. It happens (not that I even noticed).

Posted by: Zandria at June 1, 2006 09:31 PM

I haven't been around in a while and WOW...you're little angel has gotten BIG! How old is she now?

Glad she had a good time at the pool!

Posted by: Colleen at June 2, 2006 12:03 AM

Okay, Are you SURE the kids actual name was ZOOM? I mean couldn't it be a nickname or short for something (God knows what?!?!) else?

Saggy Manboobs? SOOO a requirement of Daddydom. And I nearly named my ten year old Forrest (like Mary) (had the name picked out a whole year before the movie came out and before we conceived) but my creepy ex-husband wouldn't allow it. Now Devin has a kid that he goes to school with whose name is Forrest and the kid is so "Run Forrest Run", that I'm glad I didn't.
