Schadenfreude Friday:

So, I'm suffering from a massive food hangover, given all that stuffing, mashed potatoes, string beans...and don't get me started on the pies. Yes, that's plural for a reason. I'll keep this short just in case I slip back into my caloric coma. And there's no reason to go all War and Peace on your asses either. This is a total no-brainer. Yep, this Friday's pick is Kramer.

...from the Associated Press...

Michael Richards stunned a comedy club audience, shouting racial epithets at people who heckled him during a stand-up routine.

The 57-year-old actor-comedian, best known for playing Jerry Seinfeld's eccentric neighbor Kramer on the hit TV show "Seinfeld," was performing at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood Friday night when he launched into the verbal rampage, according to video posted on

The tirade apparently began after two black audience members started shouting at him that he wasn't funny.

Richards retorted: "Shut up! Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f------ fork up your a--."

He then paced across the stage taunting the men for interrupting his show, peppering his speech with racial slurs and profanities.

"You can talk, you can talk, you're brave now mother------. Throw his a-- out. He's a n-----!" Richards shouts before repeating the racial epithet over and over again.

Richards ended up apologizing later in the week but the damage was pretty much done. The only positive thing I can say was that, at the very least, he didn't claim dependency on alcohol and check himself into rehab as almost every other celebrity who found themselves in hot water this year did.

On a different note, for those of you going shopping today, good luck. Me? I'm staying home...especially since I have 206,305 pictures from Thanksgiving to edit.

I'm just glad no one got up there an whipped his ass, thereby taking the focus off of his behavior. However, if he were to stub his toe badly, I think that would be a good thing.

As to shopping, nope, no shopping for me. I'm up this early so I can go to work. Wah. But I'm off the next 3 days after this! All I have to do is make it till 3 this afternoon, and then it's all gravy baby.

Oh man, I said gravy, which made me think of dressing, which made me think of turkey. *burp*

Harumph! Some of us are at work!

The restof you enjoy!

I get my new camera today!!

Posted by: autumn at November 24, 2006 08:15 AM

That one was a disappointment to me. It's beyond me why anyone would do that in today's world. It never works out well.

No shopping for me today. I'd rather stay at home. Today is the day we start wrapping gifts here in my world

No rehab, but he'll probably end up saying he's going into anger management counseling. I'm in the food coma too, but it was all so worth it.

No shopping for me either unless I run out of milk. If I'm lucky, I won't have to move an inch today. People were camped outside of stores at 11 last night.

I'm probably one of the three people in the country who didn't like Seinfeld. Not that that has much to do with this guy's behavior although insulting, mean spirited comedy seems to be popular.

He can apologize forever but those thoughts must have been there to begin with or they never would have come out of his mouth.

I have plenty to say about Richards, but I'll leave it at echo Ann's comment...those clearly weren't thoughts that were just coming to him in the moment. And the 'apology' on Letterman? As far as I'm concerned, that was just Seinfeld pressuring Dave to let Richards do that to control some of the damage done to his mega-million TV franchise.

Posted by: Marilyn at November 24, 2006 10:21 AM

Less than a quarter-million photos? Slacker.

I'm going shopping today, though. In catalogs. Well, the dog needs biscuits and we're running dangerously low on toilet paper, too, so maybe a trip to the co-op.

As for Richards, well, he clearly snapped into some out-of-control rage. And as much as I'd like to think I'm not racist, I am a product of a very impressive age of inequality and racist fear, and I'd be dead wrong not to acknowledge and try to deal with that.

When folks succumb to such rages, they'll lash out with whatever weapons are at hand - whore, fat, stupid, hick, nigger. Even when they know better. As a public figure, he should have had better control of his triggers. I'm not trying to excuse what he did by any means. It was ugly and wrong. But it doesn't make him a Klan inductee, either.

Wow! That's a lot of pictures! Have fun! And, yeah, Kramer is, like, ruined for me now.... And, there's no taking what he said back. The damage is too great. That's as racist as it gets.

Posted by: Haley-O at November 24, 2006 02:59 PM

Yeah, he was a pretty easy pick. Idiot. Him, not you of course ;)

I went out shopping for a little while but it was all picked over. We came home pretty fast.

I didn't take any pictures yesterday, you believe that??? Yeah, Kate got kinda drunk because she didn't eat all day and drank wine while preparing one ever said I was smart! :) ahahahahahaha

Enjoy your Friday and the rest of your weekend!

Posted by: Kate at November 24, 2006 03:22 PM

How many pictures?????

Posted by: JaG at November 24, 2006 05:22 PM

hehe That's a lot of pictures to organize!

Well, as you said, at least he didn't blame his shitty behavior on other things. I hate when people fuck up and can't own up to what they've done afterwards. Heck, you don't have to be proud you messed up, but you do need to own up to it. Jeez.

Ooh.. turkey and gravy and mashed potatoes...

I do think that the timing is wonderful, since Season 7 was just released for the holidays. No wonder Seinfeld came running to get him to apologize.

Man, I'm cynical.

Now let's get some pictures of Amazing Mia and Beautiful Beth and you up on this site! (And an audioblog is LONG overdue.)

Posted by: alektra at November 24, 2006 08:04 PM

He just kept saying I'm not a racist. I did not believe him at all, and I am a pretty trusting dude!

Posted by: Jeff A at November 24, 2006 10:32 PM

Klu Klux Kramer. What an idiot.

Posted by: whit at November 25, 2006 01:12 AM

Yeah, we don't shop the day after Thanksgiving. We're not masochistic. We drove home from TN and the roads? Clear, clear, clear.

Posted by: candace at November 25, 2006 11:06 AM

I know I'll never be able to watch Seinfeld the same way again. Thanks a lot, Richards.

And that "apology" on Letterman? Where he basically tried to turn it into some kind of this-country-needs-to-get-it-together lecture? Awkward. It was kind of funny when the audience started tittering because the "apology" was so damn ridiculous. And then Jerry Seinfeld scolded them, and they just laughed more.

Hope you and your family had an awesome turkey day!!

Posted by: kristied at November 25, 2006 03:27 PM

I read somewhere that Richards has had similar tirades in the past. Kramer's no so funny after all.

No shopping for me either. I'm only slightly insane. I'd have to be fully insane to go shopping today.

Can't wait to see your pics.

Posted by: nila at November 25, 2006 11:21 PM

It's interesting how being a celebrity means people will actually believe you...or at least pretend. In college a guy made a horrible racist comment once. Don't know what happened to him, but I never saw him again. ;)

Posted by: Melissa at November 26, 2006 03:09 PM

I'll never look at Kramer quite the same way again.

And this is totally irrelevant to the hideousness of that story, but Kramer is 57???

Followed you over from the Space Suitcase...great blog.

Just wanted to follow up with your comment about " the very least, he didn't claim dependency on alcohol and check himself into rehab as almost every other celebrity who found themselves in hot water this year did".

"Richards' publicist, Howard Rubenstein, said Saturday that Richards has begun psychiatric counseling in Los Angeles to learn how to manage his anger and understand why he made the racist remarks."

It was bound to happen sooner or later!
